Junior Sports Academy: Primary 4 to 6
A Million Little Echoes

It must be the season for Junior Sports Academy nominations because I am getting a lot of enquiries on it. Even Faye brought it up all of a sudden saying she would like to give it a try! She is definitely heavily influenced by Ewan who got selected for JSA as one of those with high ability in the sports domain. Now many of you have a lot of questions about JSA and recalled I shared our Trial Day experience somewhere in my socials. You could not find it and neither could I! So I have decided to put this on the blog for your benefit and hopefully, it will help shape your decision on whether you ..read more

All Great Conversations Happen at Bedtime
A Million Little Echoes

All great conversations happen at bedtime. All wounds heal at bedtime too. So let us talk.  Even though the children do get a fair share of wrath from me, they do a lot more to make me a proud mother. They really do. I mean if you see the way I reprimand them at times, you probably wouldn’t comprehend why I love doing my job despite the tension. Mommies would understand.   I was sharing with Ewan last night in the dark about how his JSA bowling coach told us parents to not hang around too much and baby them because these 12 year olds only want to do us proud. Should they m ..read more

Myopia Control Disposable Contact Lenses for Faye
A Million Little Echoes

Faye was seven years old when she was first diagnosed with myopia in 2021. We had her on standard optical lenses like how every child would have their eyesight corrected. Research were done but I guess we really found out a lot more as we journey this though with our children as they grow.  Six months later, her degree jumped from 200 degrees to almost 400 degrees. That caught us by surprise because we were certain the spectacle-wearing was going to help and we kicked certain bad habits in her daily life to slow down deterioration. Unfortunately, that did not work and we saw an eye doc ..read more

Enabling Lives: Dialogue in the Dark
A Million Little Echoes

At home, we are blessed with the songs of birds throughout the day as we live close to nature. Unknowingly, we block them out as we place our daily focus on everything else other than the melodic tunes of these birds. They could have been a natural relaxant to our stressful lives but yet… I first noticed these birdsongs only when replaying back recordings of home videos I take of the children. To my surprise, these birds were actually quite loud! How could I missed them out totally? I closed my eyes and listened. It was beautiful. I finally had a Dialogue with nature In T ..read more

Chit Chat with MOE about de-emphasizing Academic Success
A Million Little Echoes

I like a good engagement session; especially one that I can help shape society with. I am truly thankful and humbled to have garnered this opportunity with MOE to have my voice heard in an intimate session yesterday.  I have to tell you and you have to trust me: MOE is working really hard in the back-end to pave an education system for our children so that they grow up to be future-ready. Every policy has its expiration date. What worked before will need to be refreshed accordingly for us to grow and with that, we [the people] will need to be open-minded and see change as constant.  ..read more

Be The Best Version Of Yourself

I do not know how these amazing entrepreneurial moms can start up businesses when their babies were just born.   I was derailed when I had Ewan and holed up in my home the entire year trying to figure out what he wants whenever he cried. All I looked forward to every afternoon was putting my babies to nap so that I can, too, take an afternoon nap.
These moms are powerhouses. I feel powerless.  But it's okay. --------- I do not know how influencer moms can keep up with trends or even bother to dress up nice every time they head out for tea. They will bound to have bea ..read more

National School Games [Badminton Juniors]
A Million Little Echoes

I've turned up for every of your badminton tournaments. It was a struggle when you mentioned I didn't have to go for your first National School Games. I wanted to be there but I was also afraid to watch because I don't want to see you lose. As much as it's a lousy feeling for you, it is also for me even though I know that winning and losing is part of the sport. Mommy just couldn't bear the ache of your disappointment. Oh I always put on a brave and nonchalant front for you on those times you walk out of the courts tearing but I feel your pain.  Pârț of me didn't want to be there at NSG c ..read more

Essilor® Stellest™ Lens at W Optics

I've written several articles about Myopia and Astigmatism, Preventions and Eye Care. It became an unavoidable topic with three-quarters of my household being bespectacled. We have considered various methods to slow down the rate of myopia and shared our findings in a separate article on Atropine, Myopia Smart Spectacle Lens and Ortho K.  It was time of the year for the children's regular eye check.  Eye Examination at W Optics I hadn't expected this but the eye examination at W Optics was such a detailed one that took 45 minutes in total! Having been to several eye s ..read more

Boys and Tears
A Million Little Echoes

I want to talk about boys and tears. I am sure most modern moms will agree that it is Okay to Cry. However, how many times have you told your boy, “Stop crying!” or “Boys don’t cry!” because that was how we were brought up?  "Eeeee shame. You are a boy you know?" "Cry for what! Lose and stand up again!" "Be a man!" What about daddies? Do most of you think that a boy should man up? Are men not allowed to be seen crying because it is a sign of weakness?  As a woman, I see it as a sign of bravery. That you would allow yourself to not hide behind a facade and to vulnerably express y ..read more

Yay to the Scrapping of Mid-Year Exams
A Million Little Echoes
by

We’ve been killing the interest in our children’s learning as soon as they stepped into Primary School because we’ve been too focused on exams and excelling in them. Even my own children are facing a dread in academics. They will forever and always remember the life in pre-school. For them, those were the best years. Are we all looking forward to a radical change in our education system and turn it into something like Norway’s? Well, first and foremost, accept that mid-year exams are being scrapped no? If we flocked to tuition centres to pay for mock mid-year papers, how are we ever going to ..read more
