Evangelical Focus Blog

Most people and hopefully all Christians would agree that hate is bad. So, at a superficial level, it would seem that we should all be rejoicing at a Scottish government bill which bans hate. But as is so often the case in the world, things are not quite what they seem and words have different meanings. None more so than in The Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act, passed three years ago. It was the brainchild of the then justice secretary for the Scottish government, Humza Yousaf. What distinguished the production from other similar films was the realism and rawness of the scenes, as well as the humanization of Jesus Christ. Unexpected success everywhere The film broke guidelines, because despite the little promotion with the press and the use of an ..read more

Evangelical Focus Blog

The most frequently read Biblical passages during Holy Week are, obviously, the accounts of the crucifixion. We remember the sufferings of Jesus - his passion-, we celebrate his victory over sin -our salvation-, and we are moved to worship. And so we sing, deeply moved and our hearts overflowing with gratitude, "When I survey the wondrous cross", "Sacred Head Sore Wounded", and other similar hymns of great spiritual and theological depth. During the hours he spent nailed to the cross, the Lord spoke seven times, and these memorable utterances from the cross have come to be known as "The seven ..read more
