Two men were stabbed and another hit April 20 during a fight on a party boat docked at Pier 4 at the Brooklyn Army Terminal on 58th Street. Police and EMS personnel arrive at Pier 4. Armed men rob market

Two men robbed a mini-market on Fort Hamilton Parkway and 86th Street April 17. The men, dressed in black, entered the store at 9:55 p.m. One pointed a gun at a worker and demanded cash. The thieves took $2,000 in cash and $800 worth of merchandise and fled south on Fort Hamilton Parkway in a dark-colored sedan. There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing. The Fort Hamilton H.S. girls flag football team is off to a good start this season, sporting an early 3-1 record. With the exception of a 17-6 loss to James Madison, the team is headed in the right direction, led by senior quarterback Makayla Lucas and senior running back Rivers Martinez. Hosting John Jay at home, the Jaguars shocked the Tigers on the opening kickoff, returning it for a touchdown. After losing three straight games to open the season on the road in Wilmington, the Cyclones came back to Coney Island for their home opener for their first win of the season on a strong pitching performance. With three pitchers striking out 14 Asheville batters, the Cyclones were able to supply enough runs for a 4-1 win to send their fans home happy. “I decided that I had to change the team’s mojo,” said now beardless strength and conditioning coach Trent McMaster after the team’s first win. “I kept the mustache, but I figured the beard had to go to help us get on track.” Apparently McMaster ..read more

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Bensonhurst & Bay Ridge joined Kiwanians from throughout the borough for an evening of karaoke, fundraising and awards held in memory of Haley Daquara, a local child who succumbed to a rare blood disease in 2013. Haley, the daughter of Greenhouse Cafe proprietor Bobby Daquara, loved to sing and enjoyed performing at karaoke events held “on the avenue.” It was her love of karaoke that inspired this event, according to Brooklyn Kiwanis Lt. Truck gets stuck in sinkhole

A truck’s back tires got stuck in a small sinkhole on 57th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues Monday afternoon. No one was injured. A DEP spokesperson said a broken pipe in a nearby building created the hole. The building’s owners were issued an order to make the necessary repairs. Former deli owner Helene Bakke dies

Helene Bakke, the former co-owner of Nordic Delicacies, died April 14 at age 84. Bakke is survived by her daughter Arlene Rutuelo, sons John Bakke and Steven Bakke, 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Bakke and Rutuelo opened the popular Scandinavian deli in 1987. An 87-year-old woman died after her car rolled over her in a driveway on Lake Place and West 10th Street April 10. Joan Behan had a medical episode at 2:57 p.m. and fell out of her Toyota Corolla before she could put the car in park, cops said. As the car rolled backward down the driveway, one of the wheels hit her. She was pronounced dead at NYU Langone Hospital―Brooklyn. According to the Daily News, Behan was born and raised in Gravesend and is survived by two sons, a daughter and 10 grandchildren. Four hurt in Fifth Avenue fire

Two firefighters and two civilians were hurt Sunday during a blaze in a building on Fifth Avenue and 50th Street. The fire began at 11:10 p.m. in an apartment on the second floor of the three-story building. FDNY sent 25 units and 106 firefighters and EMS personnel to the scene.
