Hiking in British Columbia has endless opportunities. Everywhere you turn there is a trail, a mountain, a river to explore. I would like to share with you some of the benefits of hiking, as well as some of my favourite spots in the greater Vancouver area. The physical and emotional benefits of hiking: Hiking not only gets your heart pumping and legs moving, but it also brings tranquillity and peace to your mind and soul. My family chooses to hike in the early mornings when we rarely see any other life. We feel stillness and hear birds chirping, allowing our minds to leave behind all of life’s ..read more

March 8th marks the date to celebrate women. International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. I needed to do some digging to see what information I could share with you and I thought these three questions were a good start to help you learn more.  You can find more information if you visit www.internationalwomensday.com But before I share with a bit more about this day, I want you to think about one woman that deserves celebration.  Who comes to mind? Is it your mother, wife, friend, sister, grandmother?  ..read more

It’s 2024 and most of us like to write down a few goals. When it comes to fitness you want to ensure your goals are attainable, you don’t want them to be too easy, but also not unreachable. One to three goals are a good number to work with, any more and it can be overwhelming. You then want to list what you are going to do to achieve that goal. If your goal is to be active five days a week, you would list what you will do to do that. Setting out your workout clothes the night before, setting your alarm, and telling someone close to you to keep you accountable would be some steps of how you ca ..read more

Happy New Year. I hope you had a restful Holiday season. Here’s to an amazing 2024. Those mild temperatures were quite enjoyable, but this week has us digging out the parkas, grabbing the shovels and seeing the temperatures on the thermometer drop down below zero. It is easy to hibernate inside, but you truly can only do that for so many days before you get off track. Just because the wintry mix of weather is upon us doesn’t mean we can’t go outdoors to get moving. Here are my best tips to still get active outside. Just do it. Honestly, once you do, you truly do feel great. I personally need ..read more

Thanksgiving and Halloween are just around the corner. The costumes are out and the pumpkins are popping up everywhere.  It seems like every coffee shop has a pumpkin latte to offer. Here are some great fall events to check out in the lower mainland. Taves Apple Farm – Who doesn’t love picking a bushel of apples?  The plums are done, but the U-pick apples are open.  You can go to the tasting barn for cider sips and goat snuggles.  There is also a petting barn.   Laity Pumpkin Patch – This is one of my favourites.  There is a North and a South patch, one for ..read more

The clocks have gone back and when the alarm goes off all you see is dark. It’s normal to want to roll back over, to stay warm and cozy. Some days extra sleep is needed, but if you get into this pattern, then the morning workouts stop and more than likely you won’t go out at night because you will have one hundred excuses of why you can’t. Here are my tips for beating the dark, cold, rainy weather this season and still making sure you get those steps in. Go to sleep earlier – if you are finding it hard to get going in the morning, then go to bed a bit earlier. This will at least give you an ..read more
