The end of an era. We all knew it would come, and if I am being completely honest, I suspected what the outcome would be from the moment plans were announced they were to capture P-22. Once driven by instinct to seek out a new home he had managed to defy the odds. While it was not ideal to be isolated in Griffith Park, his long term residency and struggles captured the hearts and minds of people from LA and all over the globe. His presence would later prove to be instrumental in helping to usher in monumental changes for his species in LA. Rumours swirled, in what resembled typical Hollywood c ..read more

What does one do with all the flip flop sandals that wash up on the beach? In Kenya, they get recycled and turned into beautiful works of art. Ocean Sole Flip Flop Art is a social enterprise that works to reduce waste and create colorful products while employing and empowering local communities in Kenya. They recycle about a million flip flops a year and over one tonne of styrofoam a month. This helps to clean up the beaches and ocean in addition to saving hundreds of trees that would have otherwise been used. The company is based on community, ensuring that the people are as important as the ..read more

Canada is a country blessed with vast, beautiful and diverse landscapes. For the most part its wilderness has remained intact, but as it starts to vanish so does the wildlife, often disappearing quietly and unseen. Thankfully there are those who, through photography, are on a mission to ensure these special places and their animal inhabitants continue to be seen and heard. Based in Western Canada wildlife enthusiast vivs_insties is one such photographer generously sharing her special world and version of the wild west, with the rest of the us. Viv has also been kind enough to take the time to ..read more

The Andean cat (Leopardus jacobita) is the most threatened cat in the Americas and is  found in South America mainly in the high Andes of Peru and Bolivia, north of Chile and northern Argentina. There have been only 10 recorded sightings of these secretive cats in 25 years which means researchers, along with the general public, know very little about them. The rarer the cat the harder they are to study and protect, but the nonprofit organization the Andean Cat Alliance (Alianza Gato Andino, or “AGA”) is hoping to change that. Members of the AGA have released the first ever Andean cat docu ..read more
