Lake of the Ozarks is a reservoir located in central Missouri, and it is huge! The reservoir has more than 1,150 miles of shoreline, and from one end to the other, it spans 92 miles. With that much water, you know there is bound to be an abundance of adventures in the region. We partnered with Lake of the Ozarks Tri-County Lodging Association, and had so much fun exploring Lake of the Ozarks and the surrounding area. There are tons of things to do, and we barely scratched the surface of what the area has to offer. During our time in Lake of the Ozarks, we went hiking, paddling, explored a cav ..read more

Paddleboarding in Slovenia: Old Town Ljubljana and Lake Bohinj

Paddling is always one of our favorite adventures, and we were excited to get out on the water several times while we were in Slovenia. A couple of our paddling experiences were on paddleboards (and one was a kayak, but more on that later)! Our first time paddleboarding in Slovenia was down the Ljubljanica River which runs through the heart of Ljubljana’s Old Town. The second time we went stand up paddleboarding in Slovenia was on the clear, aqua waters of Lake Bohinj. Both paddle boarding experiences were so different—one was in a bustling city and the other was in serene nature. But one th ..read more

Day Trip to Yehliu Geopark from Taipei, Taiwan

As we stood on the shore amongst rocky figures that were taller than us, we couldn’t help but feel like we were on another planet. Taiwan’s Yehliu Geopark is located only an hour from Taipei, but it sure felt like we were worlds away. Over the years, wind and waves have carved wondrous rock formations across a thin strip of land that juts out into the East China Sea. And even though the clouds were thick and the skies were rainy, taking a day trip to Yehliu Geopark was a great experience. Contrary to what we have always imagined, Taiwan is filled with countless scenes of natural beauty. The m ..read more

In the winter, Yellowstone National Park is a magical place. The weather may be unpredictable, but if you are willing to venture out and explore, you will be rewarded. There are so many fantastic winter adventures in Yellowstone National Park, such as cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, snowshoeing, encountering an abundance of wildlife, and more. When a work trip sent us to Wyoming this past winter, we were excited to extend the trip to venture over to Yellowstone for a couple of days. We had never been to the park, and we are always up for an off-season adventure, especially during ..read more

Road Trip: Winter Adventures in North Dakota

Wide open spaces and winter adventures in North Dakota are the perfect combo, especially in 2021. Getting outside to explore is one of our favorite things to do—we are always up for hiking, biking, skiing, and more. So, when North Dakota Tourism contacted us about heading back to ND for a socially distanced winter road trip, we enthusiastically agreed. We were excited to see more of our neighboring state and to get back on the road again. And, since February was declared Winter Recreation Month by North Dakota’s governor, it was a great time to go! Last summer we went on a North Dakota road t ..read more

TreeTop Walk in Singapore: Monkeys, Heights, and Humidity

One of my favorite adventures from our trip to Singapore was the TreeTop Walk at MacRitchie Nature Trail & Reservoir Park. Any time we can explore nature within a city, you know we are on it. Lucky for us, Singapore is filled with green spaces. On our last day in Singapore, we requested a late checkout from our hotel (which they graciously granted us until 6 p.m.!) and then made our way out to the park. Our morning was filled with beautiful nature, lots of monkeys, and thick humid air—what a sendoff, am I right?! The MacRitchie Nature Trail & Reservoir Park is home to an 11 km nature ..read more

11+ Adventures in Latvia: Riga and Beyond

Latvia surprised me time and time again over the course of my visit. I went on a solo trip for the Women in Travel Summit (WITS) conference and experienced so many exciting adventures in Latvia. One thing I love about conferences is that they sometimes bring me to a destination that wasn’t at the top of my travel bucket list. It’s a great way to explore an area that I may not have prioritized visiting, and I always seem to come away from the experience with a special connection to a new place. I had the opportunity to explore Latvia through conference excursions and also on my own. I spent ti ..read more

Paragliding in Slovenia: Jumping off Mt. Vogar

We haven’t had a chance to share all of our travels prior to 2020 yet, so we figured that this year of limited travel would be the perfect time to share some of our past experiences. We hope you enjoy!  “Hey you, in the black…come over here, you’re first.” the paragliding guide instructed as she pointed right at me. I followed my orders, and nervously made my way over to the parachute that was sprawled out on the grass. I suited up in the harness, and the safety equipment was checked.  Then it was time to pay attention and listen. I was slated to be the first in our group to jump off ..read more

Summer Adventures in Marquette, Michigan
Wander The Map Blog

This year has certainly been a doozy, but we still tried to squeeze in some fun and socially distanced adventures closer to home. When Travel Marquette reached out to us about partnering on an outdoor inspired road trip to find adventures in Marquette, Michigan, we were happy to hit the road for our first outing in five months. Marquette is located about 6.5 hours from our home base in St. Paul, Minnesota, so it was the perfect distance for a road trip getaway. Far enough to feel like we were going somewhere distant, but close enough to still complete the drive in a day. We weren’t sure what ..read more

North Dakota Road Trip: Adventures in Minot

Even though we have been to North Dakota more times than we can count (we grew up about an hour away in Minnesota), we still haven’t explored much of the state. So, when the opportunity presented itself to take a road trip through North Dakota this summer, we were excited to hit the road. We partnered with North Dakota Tourism on this road trip and our focus was to explore the wide-open spaces and outdoor adventures in the north central region of the state. This is an area that we had yet to explore, so we couldn’t wait to see what it had to offer. The first few days of our trip were ..read more
