SCOUT

SCOUT is a brilliant little game. It's light and easy so anyone can get into it, but it's not too light that it becomes mindless. I like the first moment where you get your hand and you try to figure out which way you want to keep your hand. Which side has more immediate Shows, and which one has the potential for a much longer show. Both are important, and the importance can vary wildly depending on the player count ..read more

Ticket to Ride

Ticket to Ride by Alan R. Moon and published by Days of Wonder in 2004 needs no introduction. In a world where the latest and greatest board games get a mere 10,000 copy print run, Ticket to Ride has eclipsed 10 million copies sold. It is eminently popular, beloved by many, and I just don't understand why ..read more

Millennium Blades is a TCG simulator for 2–5 players. Each game takes place over 3 years, with each year containing a deck building phase and a tournament phase. During the deck building phase you'll be dropping fat stacks of cash to buy random packs, buy and sell singles on the used market, all in an effort to create both a tournament winning deck and an impressive collection in your binder. In the Tournament phase, players take turns playing a single card from their hand, resolving the effects to earn points. At the end of the tournament, the player with the most points is the winner, and ea ..read more

How do you Rank Games?
Meeple and the Moose

I think I've mentioned it before, but we recently welcomed a new child into our household. He's our second kid, and what's different this time around is my partner is now self-employed, and is not eligible for parental leave, meaning I get to be the recipient of 35 weeks of parental leave. To celebrate, I've refreshed my top 100 games of all time, but the in the process of doing so, I was left pondering how I rank games, and how to generate this top 100 list ..read more

Demon Copperhead

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver is the story of the titular character, Demon, as he takes the blows delivered by life. A modern retelling of David Copperfield by Charles Dickens (which I haven't read), Demon Copperhead is set in a rural community in the Appalachian mountains and examines the deep-rooted problems of poverty and addiction ..read more

Games games games. I still find it kind of amazing that I can list off 100 games that I love, and it's less than 20% of the games I've played. There's still so many games that I want to play, and new games coming out every year. I love this hobby ..read more

I know in the last post I said I don't like to faff about with the partial rankings, but these games are all 8.5 for me. They're better than the riffraff that came before them, but they aren't quite a 9/10 for me. Still, I love all these games, and some of them I'm kind of flabbergasted that there's still 40 games that I think are better ..read more

Fun fact, the first 50 games on this list, I've rated every one as an 8/10. There's actually another 20 games outside the top 100 that I also consider an 8/10, but for the purposes of creating the list, I had to cut games that numerically are identical, but I know in my heart I enjoy more. I generally don't like faffing about with half ratings or decimal places, but, I might have to just to help me delineate my feelings on these games a little bit more ..read more
