NEW YORK (AP) — Former U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, who nearly won the vice presidency on the Democratic ticket with Al Gore in the disputed 2000 election and who almost became Republican John McCain's running mate eight years later, has died, according to a statement issued by his family. Lieberman died in New York City on Wednesday due to complications from a fall, the statement said. He was 82. The Democrat-turned-independent was never shy about veering from the party line. NEW YORK (PIX11) – It’s been a long time coming and has faced a lot of pushback, but we may have a final answer on the MTA’s controversial congestion pricing plan on Wednesday. The MTA is hosting a meeting on congestion pricing Wednesday morning, which is when there could be a final vote from the board on the plan. The plan would add a toll for vehicles driving into Manhattan’s Central Business District south of 60th Street. The tolls vary, but passenger vehicles could be charged $15 a day during peak hours and trucks $24 or $36, depending on their size, among others. The MTA an ..read more

NEW YORK (AP) — The first of Donald Trump’s four criminal trials will begin April 15, a Manhattan judge ruled Monday, tearing into the former president’s lawyers for what he said were unfounded claims that the hush-money case had been tainted by prosecutorial misconduct. Judge Juan M. Merchan scoffed at the defense’s calls to delay the case longer or throw it out entirely because of a last-minute document dump that had bumped the first-ever trial of a former president from its scheduled Monday start. Trump vowed to appeal the ruling. Barring another delay, the presumptive Republican nominee wi ..read more

NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump could find out Monday how New York state aims to collect over $457 million he owes in his civil business fraud case, even as he appeals the verdict that led to the gargantuan debt. After state Attorney General Letitia James won the judgment, she didn't seek to enforce it during a legal time-out for Trump to ask an appeals court for a reprieve from paying up. That period ends Monday, though James could decide to allow Trump more time. The presumptive Republican presidential nominee has been trying to avoid having to post a bond for the entire sum in ..read more

MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. (PIX11)—A federal lawsuit could decide the structure of New Jersey's primary ballot before June 4, the day of the primary. State legislative leaders are also committing to making changes to part of the ballot that many say is flawed. "Everybody seems to acknowledge that there's a problem here," said Micah Rasmussen, Rider University political professor and director of the Rebovich Institute of New Jersey Politics.  The "county line" is the preferential spot on New Jersey's primary ballot that goes to the candidate of each race endorsed and supported by that County ..read more

PASSAIC, N.J. (PIX11) — When is criticism of Israel and its government's actions and policies considered antisemitic? That's a question being debated in the New Jersey state legislature as measures meant to define antisemitism start making their way through the legislative process. While both supporters and opponents of the new legislation say they oppose all forms of hate, the process of getting a definition of antisemitism codified into state law shows that not everyone agrees about what that definition is. There are bills on the issue in the New Jersey State Senate and the State Assembly. I ..read more
