I love talking about Midsommar’s Eve, the Scandi-celebration of Summer Solstice— but the closest holiday to look forward to is Spring Equinox. Spring Equinox falls on March 20th this year. “Eqi” means “equal” and “nox” means “night,” so Spring Equinox is when we have equal hours of day & night. The hours of daylight have been growing slightly longer each day since the Winter Solstice in December, which is the shortest day of the year. In Sweden, Midsummer’s Eve is one of the most important days of the year, rivaling Christmas and New Year’s Eve with its festive spirit and traditions.
