Hi all! I know things have been a little quiet here on the blog. (I started a new job recently. I am happy to report I am still in children’s book publishing.) I at least wanted to make a quick top 5 list of favorite series I have either started or continued to enjoy this year. 1. A Sign Of Affection Just finished volume seven recently! I continue to love this series. I am so excited for the anime to premiere next week! I read the series digitally and I am also collecting the physical English editions as they are released. By popular demand (after winning a poll on the Shoujo Reddit), here is my review of Tsubaki Chou Lonely Planet, Vol. 1. I will preface this review by saying that I know very little about the series aside from the fact that it was highly recommended, and is from the same mangaka as Daytime Shooting Star and In The Clear Moonlight Dusk. Chapter 1 Fumi Ohno is a 16-year-old girl who loves a good bargain. Her father, on the other hand, has a love/hate relationship with money. When He tells Fumi that he owes a large sum to a loan shark, her dreams of saving up for a vacuum go out the window. Her f ..read more

As such, realistic disability representation in manga is very important to me. Now, on to this very exciting review! Note: For the sake of this review, I will primarily refer to the characters by their first names, although they themselves refer to each other by last name without honorifics. Chapter 1 Tsugumi Kawana enters a com ..read more
