Coaching abuse accusations from multiple athletes. A subsequent change at head coach right before the start of the season. A nearly-catastrophic bars rotation during the regional final. For many, these occurrences could spell disaster for those impacted, but we’re talking about the seemingly unflappable University of Utah Red Rocks, who have won a record 10 national championships (tied with Georgia) and advanced to the Four on the Floor national final the past three years. After besting then-No. 2-ranked Cal in March with a 198 to win the last-ever Pac-12 championship before conference realign ..read more

When Justin Howell took over as head coach for the California women’s gymnastics program in 2013, he took over a program that ranked 49th the season before and hadn’t had a winning season since 1996. Eleven years later, Cal is a formidable national title contender and finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in the country. Justin has had plenty of help through the years to get the program to where it is now, especially from his co-head coach and wife Elisabeth Crandall-Howell, who became the co-lead over the program in 2018. Without a doubt, Texas is one of, if not the, largest market for collegiate sports in the United States. Texas is also home to some of the country’s most successful teams, with the same 17 programs having a total of 117 NCAA team championships between them. This kind of success and profit is simply unheard of in other American sporting markets, but it’s yet to trickle down to every NCAA-san ..read more
