“No one wants or expects to get a cancer diagnosis. And when this happens, we all react with a range of emotions: be it fear, sadness, denial… In my case, I was so convinced that the mass in my pelvis was NOT cancer that I told my employer I’d only be away for about 2 weeks (for the purposes of surgery and recovery!)   Over the next 10 months, I underwent surgery, 2 kinds of chemo, radiation, seemingly endless pokes, scans and tests.  I lost about 30 pounds, all my hair, my energy and my will to live. Prior to cancer, I had lived a busy and varied life with multiple roles, incl ..read more

“I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late 2018, followed by surgery in early 2019. Until my surgery, I had never spent a night in the hospital — this ‘being sick’ was so new to me. InspireHealth has been absolutely great in their exercise (Group Strength & Stretch and Gentle Yoga) programs, as well as their Inspired Conversations groups, which were helpful in getting me back on my ’emotional feet’. Although I have been active in sports all my life, I have never been a big fan of exercising and yoga. However, the instructors with InspireHealth have been wonderful — so encouraging and s ..read more

I was washing my hair and just soaping up when I felt something. And it wasn’t a small thing, it was a big something. My first tumor that was found was two by three centimeters. It was really huge. It was my family doctor that told me, and I couldn’t believe what she was saying. And I thought to myself: ‘I don’t have time to have cancer.’  I think one of the hardest things about the diagnosis was that I had two little kids… one who wasn’t even a year old, and one that was only five or six at the time. Just thinking about what their lives would look like if I wasn’t here, and thinking ab ..read more

In March 2022 I went in for a colonoscopy. I went in thinking that this was just a diagnostic test, but I knew something was wrong when the physician was there when I woke up. He let me know that I had a cancerous tumor in the low rectal area. Stage two colorectal cancer. You know in a moment that your whole world has just changed. My wife was with me when we got the news and we were both pretty stunned. We really didn’t know how far the cancer had progressed or what we were facing. It was really hard and took a heavy emotional toll as both my parents had also passed away from cancer. We wer ..read more
