Nikon Z9 Review for Wedding Photographers
Sean Lara Photography Blog

Nikon recently announced their new flagship mirrorless camera, the Z9, and it would appear that this is finally bringing them back into the game. And that game, of course, is the world of mirrorless cameras, which is slowly dominating the market and replacing DSLRs. Even at the hefty price tag of $5496.95, it’s actually quite a value compared to previous Nikon flagship cameras as well as the Canon and Sony equivalents (the R3 and A1, respectively). So it’s no surprise that Nikon has been struggling to keep up with demand for a camera that seems to be quite fantastic.  When they announced ..read more

Valley of Fire Engagement Photos

For years, I’ve heard from outdoor adventure enthusiasts that Valley of Fire State Park is a phenomenal attraction for natural scenery in the Western United States. And when the situation presented itself to take a couple here for some engagement photos, I immediately jumped on board! Well, let me first back up a bit and tell you all how I landed at this location. A received an email from Manju & Jason, a newly engaged couple, who saw the Antelope Canyon engagement photos I captured a few years back and they wanted the same experience with the bright red rocks, narrow slot canyons, and roc ..read more

202o, part 2? At times, it certainly felt like that, but with the lessening of COVID restrictions our couples who had to reschedule their big day were finally able to tie the knot in 2021 and as a result, my team and I were able to capture all of their beautiful moments. Because of all of the postponements, I personally captured 64 weddings in 2021. Yes, you read that correctly – it was insane. In fact, I photographed 14 alone in September. That’s one every other day. Despite the lack of sleep and countless nights editing, I’m eternally grateful so many brides and grooms chose me to capture th ..read more

Why I switched to Nikon mirrorless cameras – Nikon Z 6II Nikon Z 7II Review
Sean Lara Photography Blog
by SeanLara

I have been a Nikon photographer for two decades now and have either owned or used almost every Nikon DSLR or Mirrorless camera ever made (excluding the Nikon 1 series cameras). I frequently update my gear as new equipment comes out and as a result, I usually have an educated opinion and feedback on how a specific camera performs. Full disclosure: while I do consider myself a Nikon-enthusiast, I’m certainly not brand-loyal and will call them out on their shortcomings and I review their equipment as objectively as possible. I’m not a tech geek that knows every little technical detail and specif ..read more

2020 was interesting to say the least. A worldwide pandemic, masks being worn at every wedding, awkward social distancing dancing, and a significant drop in guest counts were just a number of the notable thing we witnessed this year. Despite the numerous postponements and adjustments that had to be made, we were still very fortunate to be able to capture some amazing weddings and elopements throughout the state. Here are some of our favorite scenes and moments from some of the weddings and engagement sessions we captured this year in Estes Park, Fort Collins, Denver and throughout Colorado. &n ..read more

It’s been about a year since we visited Wild Basin Lodge and we were incredibly excited to come back. This gorgeous mountain venue is tucked right on the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park and sits on the N St. Vrain Creek which flows through Allenspark. Crystalyn and Sean originally had planned to get married in Italy, but with the worldwide COVID pandemic happening that meant they had to alter their wedding details and instead get married stateside. For them, the Estes Park area was an easy choice because they love visiting the national parks all around our country and immersing themselves ..read more

When I’m asked when my favorite time of year to take photos is, the answer is almost always Fall. This time of year the weather is mild, the elk are rutting and the leaves are changing colors. It truly is a magical time to watch mother nature as she prepares for the winter season. I suspect it’s because of these reasons Haily & Justin chose October 1st to host their small wedding at the Black Canyon Inn in Estes Park. This venue is one of my favorites to capture weddings at because of the diversity of scenery and its stunning mountain views. For their celebration Haily & Justin held th ..read more

When we suggest to couples that we go on a 5am hike in the mountains for photos, it’s usually greeted with a response that suggests we may be a bit crazy. However, after witnessing the beautiful colors and solidarity of the peaks in Rocky Mountain National Park you’ll understand why we get up so early. The scenery is spectacular and the way the sun hits the earth is something that can only be witnessed at sunrise. The photo opportunities are unique and it’s something we encourage everyone to consider. Not only is the lighting perfect, the amount of foot-traffic from other visitors is almost no ..read more

The Mishawaka is a beautiful river-side music venue that sits in the heart of the Poudre Canyon near Fort Collins. For years it has hosted some extremely talented artists and is a popular place for locals to see a wide variety of musicians. The “Mish” also allows private events and as such many brides and grooms choose to host their wedding here. More often that not, the couples that choose to celebrate their marriage at this mountain venue have a strong connection with the history of the Mishawaka and have a passion for music. For their small wedding, Kevin and Melissa wanted to combine their ..read more
