Our second full-length album is out now! Album artwork by Katie Yost The Earth Turns and So Do We is The Honey Badgers’ second full-length album, a mature and varied collection of original songs focused on the repeating cycles of life, death, love, and time itself. Bolstered by a talented and accomplished cast of musicians, the album offers a diverse array of tunes, including hopeful folk-rock, Irish-inspired reflections on legacy, an instrumental piece winding through the stages of grief, a harmonium-driven ode to community, and a drinking song conceived in a coastal Maine cafe. The fourth and final single from our new album, "The Earth Turns and So Do We,” is out now! The Rose of Jericho (Selaginella lepidophylla), known as the resurrection plant, can live without water for years, then unfurls into a beautiful fern-like deep green plant. This song mirrors that slow rebirth with tightly interweaving harmonies, and cello, harmonium, & trumpet all building to create a wall of sound. Listen here on Spotify or Bandcamp. Verse 1 Rose of Jericho, watching you regrow You were nowhere, and now you’re here Rose of Jericho, ‘cross the world you’ve blown Holding secrets clo ..read more

SUMMER SKIN

A brand new song in the midst of an album release cycle?! We’re breaking all of the rules ? What a wild 24 hours! Here is our entry in the WXPN #XPNSongChallenge, written and recorded in one day. The prompt was "summertime" - Erin and I worked side by side brainstorming some ideas and settled on writing about a summer relationship that you know won't last, but that is exhilarating all the same - and maybe even sweeter because of the brevity. We got most of it pieced together yesterday, then went to a fundraiser run event, and then reconvened this morning to finish and film this before our gig ..read more

The third single from our new album, "The Earth Turns and So Do We,” is out now! Inspired by the melancholic yearning for lost love of traditional folk tunes, Chestnut Hill is the story of walking through life with a loved one, losing them, and trying to find the path forward without them. Featuring acoustic guitar and upright bass, plaintive violin weaving through vocals, and intimate harmonies throughout. Listen here on Spotify or Bandcamp. Lyrics: A1 I’m going up to Chestnut Hill, my dear I’m hoping that you’ll meet me there The way is steep but we know it well The path laid down by years ..read more

The second single from our new album, "The Earth Turns and So Do We,” is out now! A folk-rock tune that we wrote in 2021 trying to capture our hope and yearning for "living again" once the pandemic ended. Of course, life continued to be anything but normal, so we recently re-wrote this to reflect the realization that there really is no going back- only looking forward to a different but still beautiful life. Listen here on Spotify or Bandcamp. Lyrics: Verse 1 Got a letter in my mailbox yesterday The postmark was a few years old The author, blissfully ignorant, Told stories of a long gone worl ..read more

The first single from our new album, "The Earth Turns and So Do We,” is here! "She Awakes" is a love letter to Mother Earth as she transitions from winter to spring, and a reflection on how we change with the seasons as well - leaving behind the old the make room for the new. Listen here on Spotify or Bandcamp. Lyrics: Verse 1 I was sleeping deep Still to the depths of my bones Lost in my sepia dreams My cave of comfort heavy as a stone I was called awake By the whisper of snow through the trees Icicles hitting the window Like a champagne toast on New Year’s Eve Chorus She awakes Stretches he ..read more

First time at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival

In June, we were informed that we were selected to perform at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival as a part of the Grassy Hill Emerging Artist Showcase. Erin and I were beyond excited. It’s such an iconic festival and we were selected amongst so many other talented musicians. It was such an honor. We agreed to the performance, submitted all of the details necessary, and started planning our travels. Fortunately, we already had a private upstate NY gig booked one week beforehand, and would already be in New England for a family wedding - it was perfect! We found an Airbnb cabin in Maine to rent for ..read more

THE BITTER END

Wow. We’re both still in awe of the opportunity we had last night. John Platt invited us to perform for his monthly On Your Radar live concert series, which recently moved to the legendary NYC venue The Bitter End. The drive into Greenwich Village was stress-free (sometimes I freak out while driving in cities, but I think traffic was low since folks were still in holiday mode), and we found parking close to the venue. Got everything loaded in and sound check was straightforward. As we were waiting backstage and watching Zoe’s performance, it began to dawn on me how important this space was and ..read more

Outdoor Summer Performances are Fun and Fickle

We had a lovely concert yesterday down by the water at Holts Landing State Park - had to cut it a bit short for rain, but after we had packed up soggy gear, the weather cleared up quickly for a beautiful sunset over Indian River Bay. It was really nice to mark July 4th by sharing some folk music outside under the trees. We have complicated feelings about this youngster of a country, but singing songs amongst a bunch of smiling faces (and babies! and dogs!) felt like the right way to celebrate. I like to think that a nation made up of immigrants, revolution, atrocities, beauty, injustice, oppo ..read more
