TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Shawnee County elections office is seeing low voter turnout for Tuesday's special election. 27 News spoke with Shawnee County election commissioner Andrew Howell regarding voter turnout. He says as of 2:00 p.m., only about 3% of eligible voters had cast their votes. That figure includes mail-in and early ballots according to Howell. "It's pretty low turnout so far," Howell said. Christina Valdivia-Alcala will keep her seat on the Topeka City Council, beating opponent Craig McCullah in Tuesday’s general election 837 to 384. Valdivia-Alcala has been in office since 2020.
