Reusable Water Balloons!
Preschool Social Academy

Preschool Social Academy has recently decided to start using reusable water balloons this summer. Before now, we did not want to use water balloons due to how wasteful they are, as well as how dangerous they are for local wildlife such as birds, who mistake them for food. These ones are much more eco-friendly. When normal water balloons are disposed of, they pose a threat not only to local wildlife but also to marine wildlife, because the little pieces are so small and easy for all sorts of animals to swallow. These reusable water balloons allow us to have fun while keeping ducks safe! Our reu ..read more

So, I know the guidance came out about a year ago that said children should come to school in one mask with two or more changes in their bag. Then everyone went out (or let’s be honest, went online) and bought masks like crazy. Finding masks that fit the children’s faces has been hard. Fitting masks is very important for slowing the spread of COVID, but most masks are too big for their small faces. They are Disney themed too, which the children LOVE, which makes mask time so much more fun. PSA endorses Halyard’s Disney Child’s Face Masks, and highly recommend them if you have been having trouble with masks being too big for the little ones ..read more

PSA has aligned their curriculum with the Winchester public schools, using the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences. These are the building blocks needed for Kindergarten and MCAS testing, which students are required to take starting in third grade. This curriculum touches upon math, science and technology, engineering, language, history and social science, physical development, as well as art and music. Fresh air and lots of physical activities are important for our physical development education, which prioritizes outside time. This structure give ..read more

Social emotional needs during pandemic
Preschool Social Academy

In person schools are essential for meeting the social emotional needs of children during the pandemic. The AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) strongly advocates for schools to have students presently in school, as there is evidence that the academic, mental and physical benefits outweigh the risks of coronavirus. The risks have already been documented from children having classes at home rather than in person, including but not limited to social isolation, and they fall behind academically, as virtual learning often makes it difficult for teachers to adjust their teaching methods to fit the ..read more
