With the first pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears surprised exactly no one when the team selected former USC quarterback Caleb Williams.
Before the 2023 college football season had even reached the halfway mark, Williams was believed to be the first pick.
The Bears tried to be coy by telling the sports world they were looking at all options.
However, the organization desperately needed a franchise quarterback and Williams gave them that possibility.
Now that he’s a member of the team, ESPN Bet feels that Williams has the best odds to be ..read more

With the eighth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons shocked the sports world by selecting former Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
Atlanta had already given free-agent quarterback Kirk Cousins a mega-deal worth $180 million over four years with $100 million guaranteed.
Then, just over a month later, the franchise drafted his successor.
To say the pick was mocked by much of the sports media is an understatement.
However, some talking heads think the Falcons made a smart decision.

On March 13, the Atlanta Falcons bagged a whale when the team signed former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.
In the past few seasons, Atlanta has stocked up on great offensive players including Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts.
The only thing missing was a reliable, solid, starting quarterback and Cousins was the answer.
To land the signal-caller, the franchise offered Cousins a four-year, $180 million contract with $100 million in guarantees, which he gladly accepted.

The most puzzling move in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft came at pick No. 8 when the Atlanta Falcons took quarterback Michael Penix Jr. from the University of Washington.
They had just signed veteran QB Kirk Cousins to a lucrative contract weeks ago, which led many to ask what in the world the Falcons were thinking.
It also immediately led to speculation and reports that Cousins was unhappy with the decision, but Penix said per SiriusXM NFL Radio that Cousins reached out to him and congratulated him.

The New York Giants surprised some people on Thursday when they took wide receiver Malik Nabers with the No. 6 pick in the NFL Draft.
There had been a growing buzz that they would go with a quarterback, perhaps J.J. McCarthy, as they reportedly had a desire to move away from Daniel Jones, who has been their starter under center since he entered the league in 2019.
But one could make an argument that taking Nabers was the right thing to do.
He said he had talked to Jones and that Jones said he was happy that Nabers is now a member of the Giants, per ..read more

This year’s NFL Draft is absolutely loaded with potential, and as a result, a number of teams can say they had a good night on Thursday, when the first round took place.
The Chicago Bears likely had the best night of any team, as they took USC quarterback Caleb Williams, who may be a generational talent, at No. 1, then nabbed wide receiver Rome Odunze at No. 9.
But analyst Louis Riddick said on “The Dan Patrick Show” that in a quiet way, the Baltimore Ravens did very well by taking Clemson University cornerback Nate Wiggins at No. 30.

Since coming into the NFL in 2016, Tyreek Hill has been one of the game’s best wide receivers.
He has become one of the game’s best with the help of his world-class speed, which has resulted in him earning the nickname “Cheetah.”
He won a Super Bowl championship with the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2019 season, and while they have won two more in the last two seasons without him, they have still needed a legitimate threat at WR.
In the first round of this year’s NFL Draft, they may have found such a player in Xavier Worthy, whom they selected at No. 28 ..read more

Perhaps the biggest surprise in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday was the Atlanta Falcons drafting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 pick.
It puzzled most people, since the Falcons had recently signed veteran QB Kirk Cousins to a four-year contract that will be worth $180 million.
But there is another way to view this decision: that the Falcons have an eye on the future while looking to win now, and it is the message Emmanuel Acho got across on FS1’s “Speak” while lauding the decision and calling it a “brilliant move.”

The wildest pick of the NFL Draft’s first round was the Atlanta Falcons drafting Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8 overall.
It was especially crazy because they already signed four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180 million deal earlier this offseason.
ESPN analyst Mina Kimes was very confused by the pick and had this to say about it on NFL Live:
“I have a lot of issues with it…If I’m Kirk Cousins…I’m upset because I thought we were trying to win the NFC South and we missed out on the opportun ..read more

Part of being in the NFL means sometimes trying to tell a fib in order to get to where you want to be.
In the case of the NFL Draft, some teams put up smokescreens in an effort to get the player they want.
The Denver Broncos apparently did that in the first round on Thursday night in their efforts to grab Oregon quarterback Bo Nix at No. 12 overall, according to head coach Sean Payton.
“I was actively involved in trying to pretend we were moving forward,” Payton said to the Denver media Friday.
