While in Tokyo, we stopped in at 31 Ice Cream, aka Baskin Robbins.  I always enjoy seeing what interesting flavors and fun concoctions they may have, and on this visit, they had a lot of KitKat specials! I got a kiddie scoop of Triple Chocolate Break, which had milk, dark, and bitter chocolate ice creams along with pieces of KitKat. Two of my kids got The Chocolate Drink, which was made with KitKat. 31 Ice Cream / Baskin Robbins is always a treat to visit ..read more

Visit Las Vegas: Giordano's Deep Dish Pizza

My sister and I LOVE pizza so I was all in for getting deep dish pizza from Giordano's on a recent trip to Las Vegas. Giordano's is an American pizzeria chain that specializes in Chicago-style stuffed pizza and has two locations in Vegas. We stopped by the Summerlin location since it was nearby a donut shop I wanted to check out. We ordered the cheese deep dish right away as it takes about 45 minutes to prepare. In the meantime we also ordered cheesy garlic bread and spaghetti. If deep dish is not your thing, they also offer pan pizza and thin crust pizza styles. I absolutely loved the ..read more

Crispy Grindz

We've passed the Crispy Grindz food truck numerous times, but it wasn't until recently that we tried it. They offer both sweet and savory foods.  Acai Bowl Acai Smoothie Pastel Pastels are essentially deep fried won ton wraps with all sorts of fillings.  They are huge, and may be difficult to finish in one sitting (I could barely finish a 1/3 at one time, and one of my kids could only finish half - we of course saved the rest for later). I had the Brazilian Pastel, which was filled with corn, bacon, and ground beef - very delicious! Coxinha ..read more

Visit Hong Kong: Jenny Bakery

Jenny Bakery's crispy, buttery cookies have gained such a huge following, that extremely long lines form at the bakeries.  These long lines spurned a black market in Hong Kong.  You'll see "imitations" at pretty much every grocer, convenience store, and souvenir shop in Hong Kong, as well as Jenny Bakery's actual cookies being sold by "scalpers," but marked up really high or near their expiry date. There was a Jenny's Bakery location near our hotel, so we decided to check it out. It opened at 1000am, and we got there at 1015am. The line was already over 100 people long! I ..read more

Saint Honoré is home to couture doughnuts that are wholly made from scratch daily, hand cut and decorated. The doughnut shop features brioche dough and seasonal flavors using the highest quality ingredients. They also offer beignets that are made from scratch daily using an in house secret recipe. We were so obsessed with the doughnuts that we did not try the very delicious looking pizza they also serve from Pizza Anonymous. The doughnut menu is divided between the classics (Cocoa Nib, Strawberry Sprinkle, Maple with Pearls, and Apple Sugar) and the couture (Banana Milk, The Cannoli, Creme ..read more

Waialua Fresh is a convenience store that offers an impressive selection of snacks and drinks. We stopped in for the first time ever and I was surprised with the variety of treats they offered, including imported international drinks and snacks, local fruits and meats, and even refrigerated foods.   We picked up some Uncle's Ice Cream Sandwiches since my kids wanted a cool treat, as well as a "Marble Soda." If you're headed to the beach or a picnic on the North Share, or just want a snack for the drive, be sure to check out Waialua Fresh! Waialua Fresh 67-071 Nauahi S ..read more

Visit Texas: Meow Wolf - Grapevine

On our last day in Texas, we didn't have any plans. I Googled family-friendly attractions in the area, and found Meow Wolf - Grapevine, The Real Unreal. They have locations in several states, and the best way for me to describe Meow Wolf is a mysterious, chaotic, hypnotic mystery adventure. Essentially, there is a story at the heart of the attractions (each location has a different story). At the Grapevine location, the story centers around a boy named Jared who goes missing. You can read more of the backstory here (be careful, there are spoilers), but essentially, you arrive at th ..read more

I missed out on Artizen by MW's first All You Can Load Cookie Bar in late June, so I was determined not to miss out on their 4th of July Cookie Bar, going on now until Saturday, July 5 (11 am - 7 pm while supplies last).  Here's how it works: go to the cashier and purchase a small or large container. Once you see the sizes of the containers, it's a no brainer as to which one has the best value. Here's a close-up on the menu for this weekend: And here's the visual: Here's what I loaded up on (you can use both sides of the cla ..read more

Visit Tokyo: Ikebukuro Pastakan

While looking at the food directory for Sunshine City, I saw a photo of okonomiyaki, so I made a point to seek out the restaurant, Ikebukuro Pastakan, for lunch. We found the restaurant, were immediately seated, but we unfortunately discovered that it was cook-your-own, as each table was outfitted with a teppan grill.  I contemplated leaving, as it was hot, and I didn't want to be sitting in front of a hot grill, much less cooking, but ultimately, I thought it would be a good and interesting experience for the family. We were up for the challenge!   We ordered a couple of o ..read more
