Santa Claus is coming to the studio on Saturday, November 6, 2021 and we couldn’t be more excited for this new holiday tradition at Stephanie Nunley Portraits! As we prepare to open registration for the event, we’d LOVE for everyone to be able to get a spot to see Santa, but the reality is, we have far more interest than the number of families we’ll be able to accomodate. Something magical happens when a child sees a photograph of themselves.

If I could have a dollar every time I’ve heard the phrase, “I meant to... we just haven’t gotten around to it” ? Sound familiar? As moms, we have great intentions of preserving our family memories for our children, but then the reality of our hectic schedules sets in and we realize we just. don’t. have. time. So instead of beautiful albums filling our shelves and incredible galleries of family portraits covering our walls, we have drawers full of USBs and hard drives full of images we love but haven’t looked at in years. It’s not ideal... but it’s also not top priority to deal with when we ..read more

To the women who became moms during a pandemic...

My heart has been heavy this week for mamas with babies who have known nothing but Covid. Those of who have had to go to doctors appointments and ultrasounds alone. Who have given birth in hospitals with no visitors. Who have felt isolated in a season when they were looking forward to leaning on the help of others and felt like the birth of their child wasn't celebrated because the whole world was thinking about something else. For those who have dear family members who have never gotten to meet their children, and for those experiencing the overwhelming loneliness that many mamas raising bab ..read more

What makes an iconic photograph?

When you think of your childhood, are there specific photographs that come to mind? For me, the memories of my childhood are wrapped up in what are, to me, "iconic" photographs that I remember looking at often. Me as a baby, dressed up in outfits that were popular then but cringe-y now (sorry mom ?). As a toddler with mascara all over my face. Standing in front of landmarks on vacation in my favorite clothing. As an adult, I don't remember much about my first years of life… but these photographs are there as a reminder.  When I was a baby, all of my photographs were taken on 35mm film ..read more

The Best Gift You Can Give Your New Baby

Do you have a photo like this of you as a baby? Newborn photography hasn't been popular for very long, and I think most adults would look at this photo and think, "what I wouldn't give to have a photo like this of me." To be able to see all of your tiny little features clearly and be able to analyze every little detail. To be able to show your own children what you looked like as a baby, and compare their newborn photos to your own. As an adult, I think about what an incredible thing that would be… and what an amazing gift it is that I was able to give that to our daughter. One day, she'll be ..read more

I see you, mama.

It's the middle of the night, and you're rocking back and forth with a crying babe on your chest and bags under your eyes. It feels like you'll never get a full night of sleep again, and you wonder how in the world you're surviving on fumes for so long. Mama, I see you. I see you trying to do a million things while also caring for a newborn, and I see how overwhelming and exhausting that can feel. How lonely and isolating, even with the best support system in the world.  The reality is, no one works harder than a mother. And no one deserves to be celebrated more. Mama, you deserve to r ..read more

Your First Family Portrait

Your first family portrait. ? For most of my clients, their first true family portraits where everyone is looking at the camera, happens at either a 3 month or 6 month milestone session. 3-ish months is just about the earliest a babe (like this one!) will be able to hold their head up and be able to engage with the camera, and by the time your babe is 6 months, we may even get a few smiles.  I love being able to create portraits like this for my clients where they're able to see their babies growing and changing over time… because when a baby is this little, they look vastly different ..read more

Why The Studio?

Why the studio? Whenever you're looking to book a newborn photographer, you have two options: in your home or at a portrait studio. I photographed in homes for a long time, so I know that it can be really special to have portraits made in a baby's nursery, where you have spent countless hours dreaming about and preparing for the sweet little bundle in your arms. But I also know how stressful it is to prepare for. The pressure you feel to make sure everything is clean and perfect and the worries that the lighting won't be right or the decorations won't photograph as beautifully as you imagin ..read more

Do digital images really matter?  Stick with me… If your favorite portraits are printed in an album or framed on your wall, does it really matter whether or not you have digital files? After you've shared them on social media and gotten your likes, will you ever truly look at them again? Will you have time to dig through the depths of your cloud storage a year from now to find them? What about 20 years from now? You probably know that I'm passionate about portraits, and I think it's crucial to have portraits with their families to look at when they're grown with kids of their own. But ..read more
