I love creating new seasonal table settings but changing out placemats, plates and napkins can get expensive. With Easter around the corner, I wanted to fold my napkins into some bunny ears, so I needed some napkin rings. The only napkin rings I own are brushed nickel and while they are very nice rings, they are not very “springy”. So I put my thinking cap on and that’s when I came up with the idea to use shower curtain rings to create inexpensive, DIY napkin rings. I picked up a pack of 12 white shower curtain rings at Walmart for $0.94.  Then using some leftover fabric scraps from anot ..read more

Sourdough Discard Blueberry Muffins

I love blueberry muffins and I hate throwing away useful things, that’s how I came up with the idea for sourdough discard blueberry muffins. While most muffins recipes call for things like butter, sugar and sour scream, I used canola oil, sugar substitutes and greek yogurt, so I feel less guilty about eating these. As with most of the population this year, my husband took up baking sourdough bread. I knew nothing about sourdough starter, and while my husband has certainly learned more about it than I, what I did learn is that you have to throw some of this stuff out every day. Every. Day. I was walking by the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago when I saw giant white snowflakes on the windows of the entrance and I fell in love. I wanted my own snowflake window clings, so I decided I would make some. So I thought I would start my materials search by looking at window privacy film. There are a lot of designs to choose from, but the one that spoke to me is listed below. These do not have an adhesive backing, it’s a static window cling, so the ..read more
