Being Plus-Sized on Social Media
Cue the Curves

By Feyi Odejimi As a child, I can remember other kids running away from me at the playground; they were playing “Run from the Monster”, and conveniently forgot to tell me that I was “it”. I also have the vivid memory of someone whispering (not very well) and asking their friend if I was pregnant, in middle school. My first diet was when I was 12, and pretending I was 13 so I could attend the Weight Watchers meetings. Needless to say, I’ve been big my entire life. I have never been able to shop at the stores the other girls rave about, nor have I ever felt comfortable going to the doctor’s offi ..read more

Plus size halloween costumes
Cue the Curves

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. The over the top costumes and makeup are just so fun. As a plus size girl I was never part of the “let me just throw on some lingerie and call it a costume” crew. Power to you if you are that girl and I am sure you rock it, I just never felt comfortable. So I thought I would compile a few fun costume ideas for everyone’s Halloween. (that should be socially distanced of course) 1. Cher from Clueless. Cher has the closet of my dreams and I am absolutely obsessed with this as a Halloween look. Find the costume here. 2. Witchy cheerleader This one ..read more

BIPOC owned plus size brands
Cue the Curves

As a plus-size woman, I understand what it feels like to be ostracized by the fashion community but I will never fully understand what the experiences are of black women and BIPOC women in the space. However, a great way to support BIPOC and uplift then in the fashion and beauty world is to support their businesses and brands so I have compiled a list of partially or fully BIPOC owned fashion lines that carry plus sizes and cute styles that are relevant to those of us under 30. Peachy Keen Swim – Super cute versatile bathing suits Love, Vera – Intimates Savage X Fenty – Intimates and cute slee ..read more

Your Size Does not dictate your dating standards
Cue the Curves

Now that I am a few months into college and have watched and experienced hook-up culture and dating culture in college I have noticed a consistent theme. There seems to be a common belief that as women, if we do not look like super models we are required to settle for the first person who tells us we are pretty. As if we are lucky to be graced by their interest and must immediately jump into their open arms, despite how much said arms don’t fit what we are looking for in a partner. We have somehow been conditioned to believe that we are so hard to love, especially plus size girls, that we are ..read more

Prom Dress Shopping for Plus-Size Girls
Cue the Curves
by Sarah Brown

Last February the very concept of prom dress shopping made me stressed. I knew it would be next to impossible to find a store that I could go try on dresses in. Luckily it turned out that there was a bridal/formal wear shop in the tiny town of Middletown, DE that carried plus-sized dresses. It was a smaller collection but the experience of trying on all of these princess-like dresses with my mom there was so amazing to me and something I never thought I would find. While I didn’t fall in love with any of them that day that experience meant the world to me. It is definitely worth a call in ..read more

Spotlight: MJ
Cue the Curves

The spotlights are a series of interviews with different girls in high school and college with different backgrounds about their experiences being plus-sized. I met MJ on her first day of high school as I was one of the seniors tasked with helping her transition to high school life. Immediately she seemed to ooze confidence and spunk. I knew that she was going to be a force to reckon with and someone I would want to get to know. I will never forget her drawer of clout goggles (I believe it was 23 different pairs) and how much I wanted to be part of the elite group of kids who were gifted a pai ..read more

My Path to Swimsuit Nudity
Cue the Curves

*you can feel sexy in whatever you want, this is just what tickles my jimmies The path to nudity can be a long one. It wasn’t until about two years ago, when I was 17, that I publicly wore a bikini for the first time. When I was a little kid I wore them, but I stopped when I realized that they weren’t meant for little fat girls. One of the ways that I define confidence is that you can wear whatever you want and feel good. Well, I wanted to wear a bikini dammit, they’re just so . But, I didn’t just wake up one day and decide to wear a bikini, it was a years-long process. This may seem ridiculo ..read more

The Lates Fat Girl Film: Brittany Runs A Marathon
Cue the Curves

With Dumplin (Netflix), Sierra Burgess is a Loser (Netflix), and Shrill (Hulu), fat girl TV is reaching the mainstream. Although it’s been almost exclusively cisgender, heteronormative, and white-centered, I think its been mostly positive and allowed a lot of plus-sized people to taste what representation in media is like. But, these movies and shows can also promote harmful stereotypes about the people they’re trying to represent. In the latest fat girl film I watched, Brittany Runs a Marathon (Prime Video), a millennial woman doesn’t have her life together and decides to start ..read more
