As we celebrate Black History Month, I can’t help but think about those who fought for freedom and equality; those who spent their lives advocating freedom. I think of Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Martin Luther King, Paul Bogle of Jamaica, Desmond Tutu of South Africa, and countless others who sought a better world of justice and equity. Jesus? A disturber of public peace? It hit me as I pondered lines from one of my poems and latest release. “He was proclaimed a disturber of public peace,” the line reads. Why did I include that? I thought. Is that even valid? I recently thought about quitting social media and it’s not the first time. Perhaps you have thought about quitting too or perhaps you’re having so much fun and making so much gains that you think it’s an asset.
