Dragons and Whimsy

The Weekend Wrap-Up offers a little look at what I’m reading, the new books that came my way, and anything else I may have gotten up to this past week. I will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? and hopping around your blogs a little to see what the community has to share too! My Week I began my past Sunday exhausted because I was up late on Saturday. Yes, I was having trouble getting tired enough to sleep and that is entirely my excuse, but I also found myself unable to stop reading Grady Hendrix’s My Best Frie ..read more

Maybe I’m Not As Big a Brandon Sanderson Fan As I Thought

Recently trying to read Elantris I was sure I would love it. Yes, it’s early Brandon Sanderson and a lot of people warn it’s tough going, but I’m a big girl and I love Sanderson! Right? The premise sounds super interesting too, so in I went and 70 pages later, I hadn’t read for 3 days and was having a slight crisis. Do I actually not like Brandon Sanderson? That’s silly, I thought. I loved Way of Kings and Words of Radiance, Rithmatist was a joy, and I had a great time with Mistborn 1-3, of course I like Brandon Sanderson. He’s a master of worldbuilding, his magic systems are unique and the wa ..read more

Yet To Read… Stephen King
Dragons and Whimsy

Yet to Read is the weekly meme where I take a look at books on my shelves (physical and digital) that I haven’t gotten around to reading yet and books on my wishlist that I’ve wanted to add to my shelves for a while. I link these posts up to Can’t Wait Wednesday and Shelf Control! Returning to the Yet to Read series this week (having taken last week off) with a little more Stephen King. I’ve been reading My Best Friend’s Exorcism which is the first horror book I’ve read, in my adult life at least. I did have a dalliance with Goosebumps and Point Horror in my youth! Anywho, if I ..read more

Blaugust 2021 Kick-Off

Fashionably late to the party, of course, I thought it’d be worth jumping in and saying hi either way! For those of you who don’t know what Blaugust is by now, I mentioned in a previous Weekend Wrap-Up I would be taking part, although Belghast’s initial post explains it much better. It’s an annual event among the video game blogging circle intended to foster community and get people blogging and interacting a little more. The original point of this event was to blog every day in August. It’s also the time of year when we train our spellchecks that no, it’s not August, it’s Blaugust, I said wha ..read more

I link these posts up to Can’t Wait Wednesday and Shelf Control! From the Shelves I’m not sure I’ve seen anybody talking about Wakenhyrst but to be fair, it released when I was firmly not paying attention the the book world. I grabbed it cheap on Kindle at some point because the premise intrigued the hell out of me. Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver “Something has been l ..read more

Artifact Space Review
Dragons and Whimsy

Out in the darkness of space, something is targeting the Greatships. With their vast cargo holds and a crew that could fill a city, the Greatships are the lifeblood of human occupied space, transporting an unimaginable volume – and value – of goods from City, the greatest human orbital, all the way to Tradepoint at the other, to trade for xenoglas with an unknowable alien species. It has always been Marca Nbaro’s dream to achieve the near-impossible: escape her upbringing and venture into space. All it took, to make her way onto the crew of the Greatship Athens was thousands of hours in simul ..read more
