A little late this time, but there’s our weekly update on the latest games released with a Linux client on Steam. Between 2024-04-03 and 2024-04-10 there were 54 New Steam games released with Native Linux clients. For reference, during the same time, there were 468 games released for Windows on Steam, so the Linux versions represent about 11.5 % of total released titles. There’s a lot of games based on deck-building and roguelite concepts these days. The one title that stands out for me in this week is Pathblasters, with retro arcade-vibes and a 2-player mode on the same screen that’s quite ra ..read more

United Penguin Kingdom Review

United Penguin Kingdom is a city builder where you have to protect your penguin colony from attack waves of seals and orcas. Developed by Turquoise Revival Games and published by GrabTheGames and UpgradePoint, it is a game that sounds like it was made with Linux in mind, but don’t be fooled. There is no native support, but it works well with Proton. My first impression was that it would be a chill building game with many opportunities for cute photos. The models are nice, and you can see the penguins using some of the buildings they are working or relaxing in. You can press the “T” to hide the ..read more

A lot more than usual. And since the percentage of Linux native clients is also high, we end up with quite a few good titles to check out this week. Maniac looks like a very fun take on the situation where you are trying to get away from the police in GTA, with an excellent arcade vibe: Here’s a quick pick o ..read more

Yuzu Shuts Down Following Nintendo's Threat. What's Next?

I meant to cover this a little earlier, but better late than never. Following the recent federal lawsuit filed by Nintendo America against Yuzu, the popular Nintendo Switch emulator developed by Tropic Haze, the company has decided to shut down, settle with Nintendo, and take down all of its emulators from its site and related GitHub accounts. Despite the claims that Tropic Haze is going to pay 2.4 Million dollars to Nintendo in damages, the actual settlement out of court is usually confidential and nobody really knows what the conditions really are (and how much money is actually involved). I ..read more

The Thaumaturge: Early Impressions After Release

The Thaumaturge is a new game from the polish studio Fool’s Theory currently working on the Witcher 1 Remake under the supervision of CD Projekt Red. I was coming at that game from two angles. First, it has a refreshing look, takes place in a historical setting, and looks like nothing else ever made. The second angle is… it gives us a good idea what the studio could do as they work on the new Witcher game ..read more
