Birdie Alley
by Tony Neufeld

Chase Samuel notched a monumental first victory in the Saskatchewan Open last weekend. I was lucky enough to talk to Chase about this win and see what is next in his young career. (Tony Neufeld) I know it was your first big win, so how did it feel getting it done for the first time? (Chase Samuel) I want to lead this off with a funny story. I was hanging out with Nick and Nate Donauer in our hotel room on the night before the final round, and I said with total certainty “If I birdie hole 1 tomorrow, I’m going to win.” When tee time came, I threw my Falk to about 27 feet. I walked up to my lie ..read more

In this post we will get into: what discs propelled him to his three shot victory, where this win ranks, and the biggest moment of the weekend. This was Chris’s 37th win of his career, and his second win of the season. When asked about where this win ranks Chris said: “The win ranks pretty high for me. Another hot summer weekend, and another huge event for Western Canadian Disc Golf. This is the first ever Escape Sports Open powered by Innova and since it sold out in less than an hour I definitely don’t think this will be the last. Before getting into the breakdown I want to give a huge shoutout to Kodi Poettcker and Alex Pelletier for all the hard work preparing for the event. If you make it out to the event give them a fist bump and thank them, because we couldn’t have the event without them! Also a shoutout to the title sponsor of the event Escape Sports. Escape Sports is Saskatoon’s outd ..read more

Casey Hanemayer won his third River City Cup this weekend. What discs propelled him to his seven shot vicory? This was Casey’s 24th win of his career, and rumor has it that his game has gotten too big for this stage. Watch for Casey on JomezPro coverage next year. I was lucky enough to catch up with him and learn about the key discs that propelled him to victory, and the biggest moment in his final round. Before we get into breaking down the key win, I’ll tell a little story about my weekend (the worst side of the title). I have had a few people ask me how I ended up shooting +79, with a ..read more

The wait is nearly over. 18 year old Noah Higgins returns to defend his title as the River City Cup sponsored by Gander Disc Golf begins Saturday at Rundle DGC in Edmonton. In 2020, Noah finished at -19 and three clear of Kailash Eagle Sanjivi. With the provincial borders being opened the field now features competitors from Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. And let me just say this field is deep. How deep? The top rated player in Canada is playing. The forecast looks windy, this could be an advantage for the Saskatchewan guys where the wind never stops blowing. The Favorites The top ..read more

Marshall Toews (#97721) won his first Disc Golf Manitoba Provincial Championship event this weekend. What discs propelled him to the biggest win of his career? This was Marshall’s 5th win and the biggest win of his career. I was lucky enough to catch up with him and learn about his key discs that propelled him to victory, and his most unique disc. When asked about how this ranks against his other wins, Marshall said “This is by far the biggest win. I played really poorly in last year’s event here so I set zero expectations and played my game. Seemed to work!”. Below are the four go-to Discs th ..read more
