We have received the exciting news that Rory’s Miles to Mayo has raised an amazing €1 millon for children and young people affected by cancer. During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Rory Best took on the challenge of walking over 180 miles (290km) from Daisy Lodge in Newcastle Co. Down to the site of our second Daisy Lodge in Cong Co. Mayo. Over 9 days he passed through 6 counties, 72 towns and villages, talked with and shared experiences with 11 young people impacted by cancer and recorded over 370,000 steps. Our Chief Executive Phil Alexander has paid tribute to Cancer Fund for Children’s founder, Margaret McAlpine MBE who died on 18th January 2022. Staff at CRASH Services and JMK Solicitors have donated a total of £55,005.80 to their 2021 charity partner Cancer Fund for Children this December. Prison staff, with the help of the men in their care in Maghaberry Prison, have been working to redevelop a garden for children and young people living with cancer. The project which is supported by the Cancer Fund for Children will transform the charity’s Therapeutic Centre at Daisy Lodge, which is nestled at the foot of the Mourne Mountains.
