Savanna's Story

I started this blog to chronicle my daughter Savanna's journey through the world of Progressive Infantile Scoliosis. I hope to keep family and friends informed about what's going on with Savanna, to be a resource to other families in our shoes, and to help raise awareness about infantile scoliosis.

Remember my "It's Pony Mayhem" post from a while back? Well, the My Little Ponies are back for their third trip around our family! (Or fourth, if you count MY personal Pony Mayhem from the 80s!) This time though, in addition to watching the now older crew of Ponies, Savanna is now into the The New Generation, and Sunny Starscout is her hero! Stay tuned for some Halloween photos below, and you'll see just what Sunny looks like. ?
It's been six months since Savanna's last trip to Shriners, so I'll give some brief activity updates before talking about the Shriners visit.

Pokemon has taken the kids' world (and therefore our world) by storm!
It's been about six months since my last post. A lot has happened (most of it good stuff!), but I'll keep this brief.
Recent Adventures:
Savanna and her brother had been doing virtual schooling since August, and they finally got to go back to in-person school in March! Their teachers and all of the staff did an absolutely AMAZING job at keeping the kids engaged while they were at home. However, we were all so glad when they were able to go back in person.

As you might be able to tell from the name of this post, I have even more good news to share! I will get to that in a moment, but first let's do a quick recap of some of Savanna's recent adventures. I have only included a sampling of them here.
Once the coronavirus made its way to the United States, and schools were closed mid-March, we had to get creative about our "at home learning." It has been a challenge for sure, with 2 adults and 2 kids at home ALL day nearly EVERY day, but we have been doing okay. Some days are beautiful, and some days are train wrecks. T ..read more

Savanna had her 6-month check up with Dr. Pete on November 14, 2019. The appointment went well, but before going into that, let's take a walk through some of Savanna's adventures over the last 6 months:
May:
Bluebirds in Ballet
Savanna won "Best Listener" in her class
June:
Someone turned seven and celebrated with a "mock sleepover"! [It's awesome; all the makings of a sleepover (e.g. jammies, sleeping bags, popcorn, movies, staying up later than normal, etc.), but the kiddos go home and sleep in their own beds!] Hatchimals were her latest obsession!

I can't believe it's been 6 months since my last post, and since Savanna's last visit to Shriners! My, how time flies! A lot has happened since May. Savanna graduated from Kindergarten, and we had a summer full of trips, camping, summer camps, swimming, and other fun stuff. Plus, First Grade started in August! Savanna is loving First Grade, and in general, just rockin' it, like she does!
As stated in the title, Savanna had her BEST X-RAY EVER today! First, I'll hit the highlights of the last 6 months, and then I will get into her doctor's appointment.

It's safe to say that Savanna is pretty obsessed with My Little Pony now. It has taken over her life quite a bit. She reads about the Ponies, watches their show, draws and colors them, sleeps with them, wears socks with Ponies, and now has a new poster above her bed! It's nuts. She swears she still loves Paw Patrol too, but I'm not so sure... None of the pups have been kicked out of her bed yet, but I think it's only a matter of time. :-) More on the Ponies later...
It's been a busy May and first part of June! First, I'll start with ..read more
