Fury v Chisora White Hart Lane 03-12-22   Iain Dolan at ringside   Ever brave Dereck Chisora suffered a third beating at the hands of Tyson Fury on Saturday night as Fury defended his WBC and “Lineal” Heavyweight titles. It was uncomfortable viewing at times as Fury picked off Chisora with ease in what sometimes looked like a sparring session but also added more miles to Del Boy’s already road worn clock whenever Fury put his foot on the gas. Eventually referee Victor Loughlin rescued Chisora in the 10th round but the job should have been done by Del’s corner considerably earlier. Fu ..read more

Boxxer show: Wembley Ovo Arena 26th March 2022 Richard Riakporhe put in the most impressive performance of his career so far on Saturday night, in a Cruiserweight contest at the Ovo Arena in Wembley. A late switch of opponent to the very much competitive Deion Jumah will have caused some headaches in the camp but Riakporhe took care of business in impressive fashion. Sky and Boxxer have thrown in big with Riakporhe and some of his recent performances have not lived up to the hype but this was exactly what all invested parties would have wanted from him. Sporting a new (to me at least) nickname ..read more

MENTAL BENEFITS OF BOXING

Boxing is as much mental as it is physical. At the very highest level of competition, the difference between winning and losing is the fighter’s mentality. Both boxers will be physically primed to endure 10-12 rounds of explosive exertion. The physical conditioning and preparation for a fight is very much in the control of the boxer; this is the easy part. Preparing mentally is far harder. When the bell rings, can you control your adrenaline, retain composure under fire, with the confidence to resist intimidation or self-doubt, harness fear and project it on to your opponent, with the depth of ..read more

By Ian Mathias @mathiasonboxing It’s that merry time of year where we reflect on the year we have just witnessed and look ahead to what potential fights can happen and can fall by the wayside. Although we have seen some excellent fights on the world scene such as Fury v Wilder, Lopez v Kombosos, Chocalito v Estrada 2 to name but a few there were no real big British fights. Not since George Groves ruffled the feathers of the Matchroom establishment and Carl Froch back in 2015 we have not seen a big domestic rivalry get to the squared circle. Yes we have been teased with the prospect of Fury and ..read more

Sky’s the limit for Boxxer

Sky Sports and Boxxer’s first show was not without it’s teething troubles. Chris Eubank Jr’s opponent failing a medical on the morning of the fight meaning the main event would not go ahead could have been disastrous but the remaining fights still gave us a good show. There was a big back stage area with lots of camera stations and back drops set up for interviews and I nearly walked up the ramp for the fighters ring entrances when trying to find the press section. I’m very glad an eagle eyed security lady stopped me before I seriously embarrassed myself. David Avanesyan vs Liam Taylor replac ..read more

North East boxing came back with a bang on Friday night, as Joe Maphosa challenged Craig Derbyshire for the vacant English super-flyweight title. The boy from ‘boro (technically Thornaby) battled hard yet came up short against the game Craig Derbyshire, of Doncaster. With Sunny Edwards having moved onto world titles, the domestic scene has now been left wide open and tonight’s victor will be as confident as ever, that he belongs in that discussion. Trainer Imran Naeem had spoken of Joe’s maturity ahead of this crunch clash, and will be pleased his charge managed to hang in there against a rel ..read more

Mental Health – Boxing’s Biggest Battle

Just how important is the mental side of the sport? There are countless factors in the world today that cause stress, worry or doubt. Personally, I believe each of those “issues” are normal emotions that humans experience every single day. That said, we all deal with our emotions and thoughts differently. Some reach a state where they are unable to cope, through no fault of their own and this needs to be understood. That also applies to boxers. We hold these individuals on a pedestal. What they put their bodies through is unparalleled and worthy of the upmost respect. What about their minds? T ..read more

An In-Depth look into UK Boxing Viewership Numbers since the Pandemic

By (@EverythingBoxi2 – Twitter)  BT Sport & Queensberry Promotions Frank Warren and Queensberry Promotions were the first to return after the pandemic and put on 3 shows in the first 4 weeks before anyone else put on anything. Those 3 shows were very poorly received due to the fights not being of high popularity, lack of promotion, virtually non-existent undercards and people were unaware that the boxing was even on. Frank Warren’s Return to Boxing was British and Commonwealth Champion Brad Foster vs James Beech on July 10 (Friday which also affected ratings). -13,500 Average ..read more
