Students for Life of America (SFLA) President Kristan Hawkins recently participated in a spirited, sometimes chilling, debate with Bethesda, Maryland Pastor Ryan Phipps, which was hosted and moderated by podcaster Tim Pool, for his show “Culture War.”
During the two-plus-hours conversation, Hawkins made the case for why stronger pro-life protections are needed, why the Constitution should protect preborn life, and why abortion is the human rights issue of our time.
A select exchange from the interview is below:

It’s been a whirlwind of on-the-ground activism lasting weeks in Arizona since the state Supreme Court ruled that a law in place before Roe v. Wade wiped out all protections of mother and preborn baby could once again get to work. The abortion lobby went ballistic, applying intense protection to stop those humane protections. And now, that law has been repealed after passing in the state Senate and signed into effect by Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs, fulfilling a promise she made on the campaign trail to protect, in her misguided words, “reproductive freedom.” Sadly, that freedom doesn ..read more

Since Arizona’s State Supreme Court overturned an Arizona appellate court panel ruling in December 2022 stating a 15-week restriction would remain in place, Arizona’s a busy battleground for abortion and pro-life lobbying efforts. Students for Life Action (SFLAction) has stayed consistently busy since the ruling, engaging lawmakers and voters on what’s at stake if the law is overturned.
Despite those grassroots efforts, the Arizona House passed a repeal measure that has advanced to the State Senate, and is expected to go up for a vote Wednesday, May 1.

President Joe Biden’s chances to win a second term are in free fall, if the polls are right. New reporting from NBC says that “just 25% of Republicans said there was a convincing reason to consider voting against Trump, compared to 42% of Democrats with Biden.” And according to Gallup, Biden’s approval rates are the lowest on record for a President at this time of Presidency.
His administration has never been more focused on abortion than it is now. In just the last year, Vice President Kamala Harris and President Biden have been on a seemingly endless road trip of pro-abortion ap ..read more

“Last week’s disappointing outcome in the Arizona House could be the Arizona Senate’s chance to show courage and hold the line for thousands of preborn babies,” SFLAction’s Chanel Prunier. “Protecting innocents is the mark of a society with a conscience and we call upon the Arizona Senate to demonstrate theirs and vote AGAINST this repeal.”

There’s an old political adage that says to “follow the money.” In the case of Kansas Gov., Laura Kelly, we can follow the money (or rather lack thereof) to see what her priorities are. According to reporting from the Kansas Reflector: “Gov. Laura Kelly sliced tens of millions of dollars from the state budget through a series of line-item vetoes, striking out funding to deploy the Kansas National Guard to the Mexico border, support for [pro-life] programs, and another earmark for Emporia State University’s enrollment-cratering ‘model.’
The Legislature could vote to override any of ..read more

If you wanted to see two completely different approaches to protecting life, you don’t need to look any further than Tennessee and Maine. This week, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee is set to sign into a law legislation that would “make it illegal for adults to help minors get an abortion without parental consent,” according to reporting from the Associated Press.
From the article: “According to the legislation, Tennessee would make it illegal for an adult who ‘intentionally recruits, harbors, or transports’ a pregnant minor within the state to get an abortion without consent from th ..read more

Abortion is a highly contentious topic that’s making its way onto many state ballots. In 2024, Maryland, New York, Arizona, and Florida confirmed abortion will be on the ballot. Often, pro-abortion ballot initiatives can be purposefully confusing, or pro-life initiatives are often swept by abortion-supporting media. Citizens also evaluate candidates based on their abortion stances, even if abortion isn’t directly on the ballot.
