The Big 12 sees a logjam at the top than it did a week ago as 10 of the 13 teams maneuvers for a spot in the Phillips 66 Championship in Arlington, Texas later this month. No. 18 Oklahoma is in front in the league right now with a 18-6 record, Three teams occupy the second spot with 15-9 records: No. 21 Oklahoma State, West Virginia, and Texas. If the Championship started today, Baylor, BYU, and Houston would be left out of the field. Recapping the Midweek Tuesday BYU defeated Utah Valley 4-2. UCF topped North Florida 7-4. Don’t look now, but the defending College World Series champions are rounding into shape at the perfect time as LSU won a huge series over Texas A&M at home.  They won each of the first two games by 6-4 scores.  In the first game, a 4-run sixth inning for LSU was highlighted by a 2-RBI double from Josh Pearson. Gage Jump wasn’t quite as dominant as he showed the past two weekends, but did a good job holding down that Aggie offense over 5.1 innings.  Texas A&M put 3 runs on the board in the first inning of game two against Luke Holman. New Rankings The new College Baseball Nation Top 25 once again features two teams this week. The Oklahoma State Cowboys a few spots to No. 21 after they dropped their series in Austin this weekend. The Oklahoma Sooners who dropped from the Top 25 a week ago, are back this week after a sweep of Texas Tech in Lubbock. With only three weeks left in the regular season, SEC teams are looking to better position themselves for the SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament.  A perfect example of this was the series between Alabama and Ole Miss this past weekend. A couple of teams on the bubble needing a big series win to get pointed in the right direction.  It was the Crimson Tide who got that series win on the road. This SEC season is shaping up to be a fun finish at the top between Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Texas A&M.  It was the matchup of the weekend in Lexington, Ky with Tennessee traveling to face Kentucky in a top 5 affair that lived up to the hype.  The first game was a good pitching matchup between Kentucky’s Trey Pooser (6 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 ER, 4 Ks) and Tennessee’s AJ Causey (6.1 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 ER, 7 Ks).  With the Wildcats down a run in the seventh, Emilien Pitre had this clutch 2-RBI hit to propel Kentucky to an eventual 5-3 win.  Tennessee put ..read more
