The question we get asked the most here on this Clear Image AI forum is “how to use AI for business”? I often begin with a lighthearted, give it a try, approach to let business leaders overcome their fear of the unknown. It works for some but not for others. Here I will try to summarizing steps that leaders who have yet to start implementing AI can use. This will begin their journey towards formulating a strategy for introducing AI into their business operations. At the core of the problem is coming to clarity on building up cognitive skills around AI. These basic skills of understanding will ..read more

We often discuss in this blog, albeit somewhat less recently (sorry), the coming wave of business innovation, for machines to ‘learn’ and become more human-like. This AI revolution comparable but even bigger than the Industrial Revolution, will make our lives far more convenient, with a spectacular array of convenience providing products that will change our lives. Smart devices will be able to remember your preferences and repeat them when you are in your home. In a few years, but far sooner than you think, you will have an optimized home or office experience with temperature, ligh ..read more

THE POWER OF AI

It is quite clear to me that people who work in AI research are not being hyperbolic when they suggest that AI will be mankind’s most transformative technology ever. As we have documented here various times, a big part of AI’s power is based on the fact that it continues to improve with more data, and improve, and improve until soon enough, it starts to far exceed the capabilities of humans in quite a small span of time. It’s that constant improvement that means exponential growth for the technology. Today’s business AI technology is quite limited in buy-in and in applications when you compare ..read more

It is usually a great day for an AI company when the world's largest technology investor invests tens of millions of dollars in your company. Peak, the Manchester, England-based AI start-up just announced that SoftBank's Vision Fund II has agreed to acquire a stake in their company with the Vision Fund injecting roughly $50m into Peak in exchange for a significant stake in the company. Peak was founded in 2014 and has AI tools that they claim help customers achieve "transformational" results by reducing inventory holdings and supply chain costs. The company tech also has tools aimed at improv ..read more

Yesterday, this came from AFP News-France “After a painful break-up from a cheating ex, Beijing-based human resources manager Melissa was introduced to someone new by a friend late last year. He replies to her messages at all hours of the day, tells jokes to cheer her up but is never needy, fitting seamlessly into her busy big city lifestyle. Perfect boyfriend material, maybe -- but he's not real. Instead, Melissa breaks up the isolation of urban life with a virtual chatbot created by XiaoIce, a cutting-edge artificial intelligence system designed to create emotional bonds with its 660 millio ..read more

AI and the Tesla reveal

According to mercurial CEO Elon Musk, Tesla and its leadership want the world to see it as “much more than just an electric car company.” Last week, the company had a flashy reveal day, which in this case was called Tesla AI Day, during which the CEO described Tesla as a company with “deep AI activity in hardware on the inference level and on the training level.” Sounds like fun. The focus of the reveal was to strengthen their core mission to “go to autonomy and beyond.” The most interesting news to come out of the theatrics for me was the introduction of the Tesla Bot. Watching on the Tesla ..read more

With each passing day, AI becomes more powerful and impactful, slowly working itself into the rhythm of our daily lives. The coming changes to lifestyle, economies and culture will be massive yet exactly how the changes manifest themselves is unknown. When someone tells you that they know exactly what will happen during the coming AI revolution, feel free to disregard them, no one has any idea beyond mildly informed speculation. However, we can safely say that AI will affect pretty much everything in the world economy and affect the balance of many professions. There will be big changes to mu ..read more

Business should learn from US military AI

In this short piece, I will attempt the double summersault of exaggerated business opinions (in honor of the recently completed Olympics). That is to tell two stories, kill two birds with one stone. The headline purpose of this blog post is to explain that, just as the US military is getting good strategic information for decision making from AI, so should all good businesses do the same, use AI to gain clarity. This concept is clear and it is coming but first…...For a long time, I have been annoyed that so many business books need to use War analogies when discussing business.  Business ..read more

AI the inventor

Ok, some people and some legal authorities are finally starting to take AI seriously. South Africa has become the first country to award a patent that names an AI as its inventor and the AI’s owner as the patent's owner. In this case, the patent in question was secured by University of Surrey professor Ryan Abbott and his team, who have been at odds with patent offices around the world for years over the need to recognize artificial intelligences as inventors. We knew this was coming right? As AI can now lead businesses towards higher profits and make companies m ..read more

AI will create far more jobs than it costs

Technology has always had a big impact on jobs. Before the bulldozer and excavator, hundreds of men dug huge holes for construction and infrastructure projects by hand and horse….The inevitable advances always involve a push and pull, new opportunities open as some jobs are lost. Starting at the first industrial revolution, it has been one technological change after another affecting jobs and industries. In some industries technology eliminated jobs and in some it changed them while adding new ones that were usually far safer and more sustainable.   We don’t know the extent of the change ..read more
