So Paul sets off. It is clear that without biblical texts outlining the journey in detail that we don’t know his exact route. Modern scholars reckon there are perhaps four possible routes that Paul may have travelled on but these ancient pavements give us a real idea of just what travelling was like for him. Leave the English winter and head back out into the sunshine… Paul and two friends arrive by boat from Cyprus at the end of a long hot summer in AD 46. Acts 13 says they sailed from Paphos and came ashore in coastal Pamphyllia. The narrative tells us that the companions land at Perge – their landing port has long silted up and the nearest harbour is now Antalya in modern Turkey.
