For someone who’s only crafty/artistic abilities are strictly limited to using a glue gun and the occasional embroidery, I sure have some very industrious friends. Recently a friend of mine decided to have a red hot go at recreating the iconic 1940s plastiflex bags that were extremely fashionable throughout the 40s for their elegant and modern design. wearing: Loco Lindo 1940s romper, Erstwilder brooch, Miss L Fire heels Left it until the very last minute to post this because I couldn’t decide whether to scrap these photos. And then panicked and decided that I may as well post them because I don’t like the other set of photos I have either! So I’ll keep this last post of the year short and sweet. I’m actually not a big fan of New Years. I don’t like endings. Sometimes I won’t even watch the final season of a series I really love because I hate the finality of it. I do like the idea of turning over a new leaf, clean slate, that sort of ..read more

wearing: Ruby dress by The Seamstress of Bloomsbury, Miss L Fire Lovestruck Heels, vintage reproduction lily of the valley brooch, custom made purse from CrochetSpects on Etsy. I was recently at a vintage market where I found a true vintage version of this exact dress, but in a peach fabric. If it wasn’t for the fact that I already had this lovely dress waiting for me at home I would have been a bit sad (since the vintage original had a 24′ waist) and that’s just not going to happen. How good that there’s so many great vintage reproduction options available these days! Even though I d ..read more

wearing: The House of Foxy 1930s Flutter Blouse, The House of Foxy Waterfall 1940s skirt, Aris Allen shoes, vintage purse, vintage reproduction brooch. If you grew up in Australia then you probably didn’t get to enjoy Halloween. That’s how it was when I was growing up, not that it stopped me from imposing Halloween on my friends and family. Now as an adult I’ve seen the rest of the country gradually become more interested in Halloween with every passing year. So I am doing my best to make up for lost time. It will come as a surprise to absolutely no one that my favourite kind of Hal ..read more

The last outfit from the short season of cooler weather we get is a 1940s reproduction suit by Miss Bamboo. I love that more and more vintage repro brands have started making 1940s suit sets and I try to grab one every time a good one comes out. Miss Bamboo have actually released suits for AW23 in this same style in brown and navy, so I’m pretty tempted. I’ve also made a point of putting more effort into looking that extra bit more authentic (when I can be bothered) and have been going to the effort of wearing seamed stockings with outfits. And I finally found a brand of hairnets ..read more

A few years ago I was very much attached to my denim Freddies of Pinewood dungarees. I loved how they looked, but unfortunately living in the tropics you don’t get a lot of wear out of denim. So when Emmy Design did a pair of dungarees in linen, I thought hey what a great idea! And ordered some right away. That’s not to say that I don’t still absolutely adore wearing the things Freddies of Pinewood make; the blouse I’m wearing is one of their Spellbound blouses, which I own in several prints. I have never considered myself a reenactor, more of a vintage fashion enthusiast. The folks ..read more

In this household we go on two holidays a year; in winter and in summer. The winter holiday is exclusively for Diago, and then in summer we leave Diago with a sitter and go to the beach. Every year we head to a cabin in the bush where the humans get to drink mulled wine by a log fire, and Diago chases roos and barks at cows. Cows that see Diago and think he’s a muster dog and run up to him in a large herd and await his instructions…In short, a great weekend is had by all and Diago sleeps the entire four hour drive home, exhausted from running free on 80 acres. We love it, and I’m fairl ..read more

Here we have yet another fabulous 1940s knitwear creation by the same designer as my previous post. Those of you who collect 1940s knitting patterns are likely familiar with this specific design, as I’ve seen it pop up a lot in various colour combinations. Because I do my best to only get stuff I will get a lot of wear out of, I decided on the mushroom coloured wool instead of a bright colour. So this outfit ended up not being very bright or exciting, but it’s one of my favourite things that I’ve worn lately! And yep, it was totally inspired by the outfits worn in All Creatures Great ..read more

One of the perils of living in Australia, is that sometimes when you buy things online they get sent to Austria instead. Yes, really, that happens. Or it has to me, because that’s where this lovely knit ended up when I bought it. I guess statistically when you order the amount of things online that I do, it’s bound to happen occasionally? Anyway all’s well that ends well, because I did up receive this jumper in the end. But only after it had done three tours of Austria, courtesy of the Royal Mail. Love that. Actually I ended up with two jumpers, because I bought a second one when this ..read more

wearing: The House of Foxy 1940s shirtwaister dress, Lulu Hun wedges, Collectif Clothing purse, turban & parasol from markets I don’t know how it was decided that March is the first month of autumn in the Antipodes and spring in the rest of the world…Every year seems to be the same; March starts with a healthy heaping of snow in Europe and in Australia it’s summers final hurrah. I’ve just picked several kilos of guavas from our tree which I’ll freeze and turn into smoothie bowls. And we are still eating watermellon every day at the moment, so as far as I’m concerned March is just t ..read more
