In the Houghton Library in the great learning institute of Harvard, you will find a book called Des destinées de l’âme (Destinies of the Soul in English) that is bound in human skin. The book was not the handiwork of a madman like Buffalo Bill from the novel and film The Silence of the Lambs, {maybe) but a donation to Harvard in the 1930’s. The story goes that the author of Des destinées de l’âme, Arsène Houssaye gave a copy of his book to a friend, the renowed French Dr. Ludovic Bouland, who bound the book with human skin from an unclaimed body of a female mental patience who had died from a ..read more

In the Beginning Finnegan was the last one. One by one his best friends crawled into the small mouth of the cave. The extra tiny Oliver was first, followed by the leader and the toughest of the teenagers Peter Salvador, known as Pizza Pete to his friends. Next was the weight challenged jokester with ginger hair that was buzzed to the skull. Friendly, pinkish-white skin made him look like a large tuna fish, but folks in these parts never knew much about fish, it was land mammal country, everyone in the community called the very likeable boy Wiggley Piggly. In ancient Egypt, men also wore makeup. These beautiful Egyptian men of long ago liberally applied a makeup called kohl (a paste made from several different ore minerals) around their eyes with a special tool that usually was created from ivory, wood and bone. Besides making the men better looking, (which a lot of men today could use help with) it was believed the makeup gave them the protection of the Gods Horus and Ra and also had special healing powers to top it off. You can’t beat that! Plus, both men and women of ancient Egypt wore a copious amount of perfume made from cinnamon, oil and ..read more

Excerpts from the diary of Ruth Wilson as read by Gale Sawyer The Trial of Robert Stuart Hammerstein Bob Hammerstein did not have a trial, he was shot in the right ear less than three hours after I met him. If you subtract the thirty-minutes we made love and the two phone calls Bob made in another room of the suite. I really only got to know Bob for two hours, if you don’t count the intense and physical sexual gratifying time.  In the two hours we spent getting to know each other, Bob smoked at least ten Dunhill Cigarettes that his long slender fingers would elegantly retrieve from his g ..read more

What books people were reading in the past is something I have always been interested in. At the bottom of this page is a top ten list of the best selling novels in the United States in 1921, as determined by Publishers Weekly. Of the ten most popular novels of 1921, I have read two: Main Street by Sinclair Lewis and The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton. I am a big fan of Sinclair Lewis and have read most of his books, including Main Street two times. I highly recommend Main Street. Like many of Sinclair Lewis’ books, Main Street is timeless. I can see many traits that were in characters Lewi ..read more
