I sometimes find that deciding where to stay then getting yourself there to be the hardest (not to hard) parts of any trip. By this I mean, deciding on which hostel/hotel you will stay in, based upon price, location, facilities, distance from train station, public transport etc then of course you are faced with a potentially long transport day on bus or train then a good walk upon arrival to your accommodation. Challenging as some of these points are, it's also what travel/backpacking is all about. Getting up, moving on, stay for a few days or so in a new city, move on etc. It's why I love tra ..read more

I know what you must be thinking! Why would I pay a few dollars for information, travel tips and advice when I can get it for free from one of the many backpacking travel tips web sites clogging up the internet?
Yes, you can get some good information from the mass of web sites out there but to find it you have to trawl through multiple sites, popups and annoying ads just to discover, for the most part, you are wasting your time, because most of the "travel tips" you read are either pretty obvious or not really that helpful in informing you what all budget travellers want to know... like saving ..read more

Pause for a moment and conjure up images in your mind of where in the world you would rather be right now. Then think to yourself what is stopping you from going there. At this point most people will say money; money is stopping me, not having enough, bills to pay, etc. What is really stopping you is you, your decisions or your excuses. I think at times the hardest part of the trip is setting a date and going, once you are out there and doing it you begin to realise how easy it is to go just about anywhere. The sense of freedom is truly awesome.

Dorms - The bad
No privacy, people come and go at all hours, snoring, drunks causing all kinds of disturbances, people rummaging through their packs at all hours, people leaving at the crack of dawn, inconsiderate people letting the room door slam, again and again and again when people are trying to sleep, security of belongings (sometimes the lo ..read more
