Cindy at the beginning of her Beyond 50 Skin journey. Beyond50Skin and Cindy Sterling: Every picture tells a story, don’t it (Rod Stewart)? The pictures of Cindy Sterling above tell the story of a woman who looked in the mirror at age 50, did not like what she saw and took action. “How had it come to this?” she thought. The age spots, the smoker’s lines (despite never smoking), the hollowing under her eyes. Not to mention the “angry 11s” between her eyebrows and the labial folds on the side of her mouth. The effects of aging and menopause were undeniable. Little did she know then that she wa ..read more

Do you have a cough?

woman coughing I didn’t cough so much ten years ago. Did you? When I was about 47 I acquired a cough and it just….kept going. We had gone to London and I got super sick while I was there and remained so when I came home. And, it just never seemed to leave! Great gobs of goo and whatnot. Share Of course it got better. I got better. But, the cough would come back whenever I got sick and stick around like a bad habit. Eventually, the cough morphed into asthma and that was a real problem. I couldn’t run. I wheezed a lot. I coughed up unspeakably gross stuff in a wheezing rib cracking hack. I got ..read more

Happy Easter Passover Spring!

New painting of mine called…Spring. Spring. Ah. We have blossoms bursting on the trees in Boston. The birds are up at 4:30 in the morning and so am I. I know you are too because a lot of people read this blog then! It’s why I send it out so early, for you. Spring. It’s the start of something, like the way the Fall is the start of the school year. Frankly, I think Spring and Fall are more like a start to something than January 1. But maybe that’s just me. Isn’t it inspiring to think the days are getting longer and brighter and greener and warmer. Let the window cleaning commence! Storm window ..read more

Can you believe it? 100 WSG posts to you! A walk back through time that started in COVID…here’s the first! Thank you to Claire Messud for letting me interview her, never having interviewed anyone. We’ve come a long way, baby! Thank you Virginia Slims for a spot on slogan for women ?. MUSINGS How are we, Guiders? Too cute? I thought we deserved a nick name and maybe a jacket or at least a T shirt. “Survivors” seems like a downer, indicating strife. We aren’t here to feel down! As Meghan Daum says in our video chat below, we can do that all by ourselves. Too True. Women's Survival Guide is a ..read more

Photo by ahmad kanbar on Unsplash Helloooo! It’s sunny here in Boston for the first time in a while and I’m not sure what to do about it! I feel like a mole who came out of my hole by accident and is blinded by the sunlight! What is this magic! AAAAhhhhhhhhhhh….no, I’m just going to get some more age spots but my mood will be uplifted by the bright nearly Spring sunshine. Starting a novella behind the paywall…. OK, now its time for my Premium Squad to get some attention. I’m not great at deciding what’s for pay and what’s for free. But, I have been considering writing some fiction and why no ..read more

I think Glinda is/was an Empress. Happy Birthday, Dad! ❤️ Wishing you the happiest and healthiest! I love you. Onward. Self check-in: I’ve been feeling pretty scatter brained lately (all the time?). My attention span is teeny tiny. My thoughts are ping ponging all over the place. The good news is that I shook off last week’s issues. Feeling insecure really takes the fun out of a girl. But, like a hot flash, it will pass. We know this. Last night I took part in Zoom forum with this week’s Maven, Alisa Kennedy Jones, and I noticed a few things. We all had below the shoulder length hair and we ..read more
