Ukraine

As this entire horrific attack on Ukraine occurs, I see how powerful leadership is. Volodymyr Zelenskyy is heroic. Like in the books kind of heroism, and I don’t believe in coincidences, so I believe the entire world needed this man as an example of what real heroism looks like. Kinda like recalibration for the entire world to see what a people really do for their country and for each other. Our world has become so selfish and small. Everything is advertising at 300 miles per minute and hurry up I have five errands to run in my 30 minute lunch break. We barely look at each other anymore cause ..read more

This meme on Twitter tonight stopped me in my tracks with laughter and then I was assaulted by the utter truth of it. Here it is, what do you think? Well, for me it felt like my relationship with Jesus. I went to a fundamentalist Christian school from second grade until graduation. That is a lot of time to have God shoved down your throat with fire and brimstone. Seriously. I was having existential crises about God in the fifth grade. Like, God is love eternal the brightest shiniest light of love in the world but relentlessly goes around smiting entire populations of people at the drop of a h ..read more

Mindful Eating

I practice mindfulness because it keeps me in balance. It was challenging to learn how to do as a self-diagnosed ADHD with OCD components, but I did. This post is for all the people like me who really want to discover slowing down and not over do EVERYTHING! You know, be the best at everything you do because if you aren’t you will be discovered as a (insert your fear here) and no one will want you. Or…is that just me? I found when you are able to do this type of food meditation with ease you have battled and vanquished your demons (aka – fears). We eat a lot all throughout the day. We eat as ..read more

My State of the Union Address

I stopped writing my blogs for a bit. Life got lifey. From deciding my fate of jobs for next year to watching democracy being attacked abroad, I needed a minute to figure some things out. Here’s what I came up with: The level of hate and control in the world and the place it resides is the issue. The men, I have to say this because they are, who have the wealth and the power are using it to stroke their tiny egos and letting the rest of the world pound sand. It needs to end and that happens when people stand up. Speaking of standing up: Ukraine. Never in the history of our country have we nee ..read more

The Dichotomy of Dating in Your 50’s

This is a common theme I hear from a lot of women of all ages, but particularly for women in their 50s. Many of us still want love and companionship in our lives, but we also have become incredibly happy being our own independent women not beholding to anyone but ourselves. It’s a conundrum, for sure. This morning I woke and laid in bed with my heating pad lovingly warming those pesky cricks in my back, and I enjoyed the written word and the digital social space drinking my coffee made to my exact specifications with no one saying shit about how many pumps of sugar-free caramel syrup I used r ..read more

The Man I’m Looking For

I am 56. I’m Gen X to the core. I’m independent. I’m intelligent and a life-long learner. I grew up with a mother into the finer things in life and a dad who loved liar’s dice, playing pool, being on a boat in the Delta, and using his child as manual labor. Therefore, I have manners and class my mother instilled and the love of dive bars and bowling from my dad. I can get along with most people and have fun usually anywhere I go, unless I hate it, then I’m a miserable bitch until I can leave (that’s all me). I also was raised by a narcissist and a co-dependent of the highest level (you figure ..read more

The traditional family model.

So, everyone keeps saying that when our issues began in this culture was when the traditional roles in the family broke down. I call bullshit on that theory. You know what fucked up the family dynamic? World War II when all the men went to war and the WOMEN kept the country going. Women stepped into the role they had never been allowed to even dream of being – breadwinner. Women had to control the family and make sure she could keep them fed and loved all by herself. And guess what, not only did she freaking rock it, but she also loved it. Women liked being able to expand their horizons and u ..read more

Trying to Please our Parents

I’m a grown woman and I’m still trying to cur favor from my father. That is the most dismal sentence I’ve ever written. My dad married my mother when they were in their very early twenties. I was three. My mom had me at eighteen and married my bio father, but obviously it wasn’t a love match and they divorced when I was one. I have never met my biological father and he has given me up twice. So, yeah, I have daddy issues. I have abandonment issues (see above), insecurity issues for knowing since my birth I wasn’t wanted by my father, issues in my relationships of men (Shocker!) and co-depende ..read more

Villains

I’ve never really been a superhero person. I don’t know why, just never was my thing, but I have always felt something for the villains. I always wondered what happened to make them that way. I know what happens to us changes us for the good or the bad, so I always wanted to hear their backstory. Then I became a villain and I found out the hard way. Now, my story in not new and today it seems to be happening with great frequency, but many children are estranged from their parents. Many times it’s for good reason because the relationship is not healthy, well, actually, that’s the only reason it ..read more

Thoughts about Social Media.

In the last 2 years, like everyone else, I’ve been on social media a lot. I mean, A LOT! And like many of you, I feel guilty about how much time that is. Especially when my phone wants to social media shame me every week telling me HOW MANY MORE HOURS I’ve spent apparently wasting my time and my brain on social media. But I actually don’t feel like I’m wasting time. Full disclosure, many times I am wasting my time, a.k.a. procrastination, but I love the internet and the way we can look up any thought in our head and find out something about it. Seriously, anything. Reach out if you’ve put some ..read more
