The Charity Retail Association’s More than a shop campaign is running across social media this week, between 22 and 29 April, to highlight the many benefits of charity shops.
The association says that the campaign is to celebrate and raise attention to the fact that a charity shop is not just about the shopping experience but has charitable, social and reuse functions that no other form of retail shares.
Charities are encouraged to join in with shareable assets available that share the many roles charity shops fulfil, which can be used across social channels.

Pancreatic Cancer UK has been chosen as the official charity of the year for the 2025 TCS London Marathon.
As official charity of the year, it aims to raise £2mn to provide doctors with an early detection test for the cancer, which could save thousands of lives a year with the disease currently killing more than half of people within three months of their diagnosis. It is asking runners to “Take on the ultimate test to help develop the ultimate test” by signing up to take part for the charity.

Fewer employees are donating through Payroll Giving, research by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) has found, with the number using the scheme falling by 13% since 2020.
Just 516,000 employees are participating in Payroll Giving, according to the latest data. The total amount donated to charities via the scheme is also falling, down 7% year on year from £137 million in 2021 to £128 million in 2022, the most recent year for which data is available.

The 2024 TCS London Marathon has broken fundraising records, its organiser has said, reaching a total of £67 million so far across official partner Enthuse, and JustGiving.
Runners using the JustGiving platform have raised £40mn so far, while over on Enthuse, over £27mn has been raised.

More than £40million has now been raised by London Marathon fundraisers on JustGiving – 14% up on last year’s race, the fundraising platform has reported.
Last year, ahead of the 26.2-mile race, a total of £39million was raised by London Marathon participants on the fundraising site, with £4million donated after the event.
The 2024 TCS London Marathon took place yesterday (21 April), with the £40mn raised by 18,000 fundraisers and set to benefit more than 1,700 charities.

From today (22 April), consumers will be able to recycle clothing – both wearable and unwearable – from home by ordering a pre-paid postal donation bag from the Oxfam website.
The bag, made from 100% recycled plastic, allows clothing to be separated into two groups: good quality and wearable, and unwearable but too good to waste. It can be returned for free via a local courier with the clothing then going directly to Oxfam to be resold, reused, or recycled. People can order a bag here.
