I’m excited to be part of the blog tour for What Happens in Montana.
Before we get to my review, here’s more about the book:
A ghost’s antics, a harrowing moose chase, a hypnosis session, and smuggled booze lead to spilled secrets and betrayal, but do they also lead to murder?
At a hot springs retreat in Montana, whiskey-swigging Maude, the nearly eighty-year-old chef, longs for the glory days when the retreat hosted martini-sipping celebrities instead of long-haired hippies who refuse to wear deodorant. Brooke, feisty, adventurous, and a bit reckless, proposes a reunion at the retreat with he ..read more

Today I’m excited to have Leslie Cox on my blog, sharing her thoughts about Neill McKee’s memoir MY UNIVERSITY OF THE WORLD. Take it away Leslie!
Neill McKee has taken me along on his journey in, My University of the World. His travels extend beyond those of many readers—North America, South America, Asia, Africa, and the list goes on. But this is more than a travel guide. It is a story about humanitarian efforts extended to the people of developing countries by an army of volunteers, and what can be learned from various cultures. Those volunteers provide resources and training to aid in the d ..read more

I thought I’d take some time to reflect on the post for IWSG and what has been happening with January.
I’ve been making some slow progress with my writing; getting back into the habit has been the most important part for me. I’m beginning to embrace planning more. I think that’s the missing piece in my writing journey, and I’m eager to see how things play out for me.
IWSG asked:
What turns you off when visiting an author’s website/blog? Lack of information? A drone of negativity? Little mention of author’s books? Constant mention of books?
Strangely, I don’t seek out author’s websites often ..read more

Have you ever wanted to travel the world? Not all of us are blessed with the means and ability to do so. That’s why I’m so excited to share Neill McKee’s memoir My University of the World with you.
Before we get to my review, here’s more about the book:
Neill McKee takes us on an entertaining journey through the developing world from 1970 to 2012. The story starts when he becomes a “one-man film crew,” documenting the lives of Canadian CUSO volunteers working in Asia and Africa as teachers, medical doctors, nurses, engineers, agriculturalists, foresters, and a biologist. He learns the craft of ..read more

So, once upon a time, back in a different version of me in late 2022, I signed up for something called Project Backlist Reading Challenge for 2023. I completely forgot about it, and I really don’t think I read anything specifically related to that challenge at all this year.
Then, I got an email! It was from Kal, the owner of the challenge, inviting previous sign-ups to join the challenge again. I decided to participate for 2024.
So, I’m doing the specific challenge to clear my ARC review list. Luckily, these aren’t physical books toppling a weakened side table. They are all sitting in my emai ..read more

It’s cold and classically December-y these days. A perfect time of the year to read! I recently had the chance to read Homecoming Chaos by D.W. Brooks. I can’t wait to tell you about it.
Before we get to my review, here’s what it’s about:
Jamie Scott’s life fell apart four years ago when she broke off her engagement, turned down a dream job, and went overseas to run away from her life. Now she’s back, but the reunion is not without problems. She arrives home just in time to attend the soiree her mother planned, but she’s not prepared for what she finds—a dead employee in the parking lot.

I spotted this month’s prompt in the Insecure Writer’s Support Group newsletter and couldn’t wait to respond. Here’s their question:
Book reviews are for the readers. When you leave a book reviews do you review for the Reader or the Author? Is it about what you liked and enjoyed about your reading experience, or do you critique the author?
Obviously, I review books on my blog. In fact, it’s more of a book review blog than a blog about writing. I think I switched over to focusing more on book reviews many years ago because I started having less to say about my writing journey here. As for me ..read more

Ask someone what an author does and they will more than likely say, “They write books.” This is true but it passes over the many, many other things an author has to do.
“Like what?” you say. Since you asked, I’ll tell you.
Authorship involves writing naturally enough. But it also encompasses many more areas.
Thinking is one such area. Being an author involves thinking about: New stories; How to sell more books; New plot events; Another new character; More research.
Publishing is another area that requires work. And this work occurs no matter how the book gets published. If the book is publishe ..read more

Confession time: I am a sucker for books on writing. If you ever want my attention, request that I review your book on writing. Even as a kid, I used to search the aisles in the library for one I hadn’t read yet. And recently, I had the chance to review Creating Your First Book by Hank Quense. I can’t wait to tell you about it!
But first, here’s more about the book:
Are you writing your first book? Or are you thinking about writing it?
Do you have any idea what you’re getting into?
No? Let’s talk about it.
Most aspiring authors concentrate on writing the book to the exclusion of all else. Howe ..read more
