Yes, those are lyrics from Semisonic’s hit Closing Time, They also illustrate what I am feeling right now after hearing the news yesterday that Washington Nationals’ RHP Stephen Strasburg is set to officially retire in September from Major League Baseball.

(New York)– Right-handed pitcher Michael King was on the bump for the Yankees. King put the Nationals down in order to start the first inning. Patrick Corbin opened the game for the Nationals and with one out he gave a mistake pitch to Aaron Judge and Judge hit a solo home run to start the scoring.
With the back-to-back singles by Gleyber Torres and Giancarlo Stanton, the Yankees had runners on the corners with just one out. Corbin would then retire the next two to get out of a jam. Washington Nationals pitcher and 2019 World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg will retire. The 2019 World Series MVP and former No. 1 pick in the draft by the Washington Nationals, couldn’t overcome complications from thoracic outlet syndrome, is tentatively planning a September announcement per the Washington Post.

Today, Major League Baseball announced that the Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was placed on administrative leave. From the release:
“Per an agreement between MLB and the MLBPA, Wander Franco has been placed on Administrative leave until further notice as MLB continues its ongoing investigation. The administrative leave, effective immediately, is not disciplinary under the Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy. We will comment further at the appropriate time.”

The Nationals have signed manager Davey Martinez to a two-year contract extension and general manager Mike Rizzo also is close to a new deal, according to Ken Rosenthal and Brittany Ghiroli of The Athletic.
The Washington Nationals are in the middle of their third year of their “re-tool” and have been playing pretty well for a team full of young players. The Nationals are on a 12-5 roll and recently Baseball America ranked their farm system the eighth best in the Major Leagues.

Well, if you needed to know what the potential is for the 2023 first-round pick for the Washington Nationals, it is going to be all going up. Over the weekend, multiple media outlets reported that the Washington Nationals will be promoting Dylan Crews to the Harrisburg Senators, skipping the High A level altogether.
The 21-year-old will be playing for the Harrisburg Senators as he continues his rise through the minor league system. The Senators begin their next series on Tuesday where Crews could make his Double-A debut.

Major League clubs have voted to extend Commissioner Rob Manfred’s tenure through Jan. 25, 2029, MLB announced Wednesday.
Manfred, who assumed the Commissioner position in January 2015, will remain in the role for the next five full seasons.
