Americano Cocktail
A Beautiful Mess
by Elsie Larson
23h ago
The Americano cocktail (not to be confused with the Caffè Americano) was created in the 1860s at Gaspare Campari’s bar in Milan, Italy. The signature drink is made with Campari, sweet vermouth and sparkling water. It’s bittersweet, bubbly, low ABV and refreshing. More Campari drinks: Negroni, Boulevardier, Negroni Sbagliato. Ingredients in an Americano Cocktail Campari – An Italian bitter. Sweet Vermouth – Such as Gallo. Soda Water – Or mineral water to top. Orange Twist – To garnish. Americano cocktails are often served in both short and tall glasses. Choose a double old fashioned glas ..read more

Taro Milk Tea
A Beautiful Mess
by Emma Chapman
2d ago
Taro milk tea is one of the most popular bubble tea drinks I usually see on menus. While of course you don’t have to add boba pearls to taro milk tea, it’s more fun if you do. This drink is a vibrant purple lavender color and made with taro root, brewed tea, and milk. What is taro? Taro is a starchy root vegetable most often grown in Southeast Asia. It’s kind of like a sweet potato or yam, but has a different flavor profile. While you can use raw taro root to make taro milk tea, I almost always use taro powder as it makes the process much easier and I think is just as good. Related: Use this ..read more

10 Things I Love Sunday
A Beautiful Mess
by Emma Chapman
4d ago
Happy weekend, friends! Spring is starting to feel a little like summer around here and I am here for it. I can’t wait for our neighborhood pool to open next month. I mentioned this on our podcast but we are having our backyard fence replaced and they are currently putting in a small deck too. I am so excited! I can’t wait to buy a few more yard games and a little splash pool that I feel confident will soon become a “car wash” with our son. He’s also big on picnics right now, so that’s fun too. Anyway, here’s a photo of me being cheesy during the eclipse this past week along with 10 things I’v ..read more

Mississippi Pot Roast
A Beautiful Mess
by Emma Chapman
1w ago
Growing up, pot roast was one of those meals that was often made on Sundays after church or a weeknight. And this Mississippi pot roast recipe is the embodiment of those childhood memories with just five ingredients and made in a slow cooker (we also call it a crockpot). It’s a flavorful, simple and inexpensive meal. To be honest, I am not sure why this combination of flavors has come to be known as Mississippi pot roast. I suspect it may have to do with the gravy mix. The name always reminds me of Mississippi mud pie, something my great-aunt Ina would often make for holidays. No matter what y ..read more

Oleato
A Beautiful Mess
by Emma Chapman

If you’re like me, then you love seeing the new seasonal drinks at Starbucks. I love the simplicity and texture of the new Oleato latte. Oleato means “with oil” in Italian and that’s exactly what this is—a latte with olive oil added. This drink reminds me of bulletproof coffee (sometimes called “butter coffee”) in that the olive oil provides and added healthy fat to this latte. A Pisco Sour is a refreshing cocktail that’s made with Pisco, lime, egg white, and sugar. The drink has Peruvian origins and is the national cocktail of Peru and Chile. A shaken egg white gives the drink a creamy froth on top and a few dashes of Angostura bitters finishes the drink to perfection.
