If this is you–a woman who deeply wants to let go of control–I get you.
I have wanted to control things for most of my life. To be honest, I think it’s how I survived a lot of my teenage years.
With an amazing dad, who happened to struggle with alcoholism, I never knew what I was coming home to. Would he be sober? Drunk? Happy? Angry? How was my mom doing?
The lack of control at home made me anxious. I would mask that anxiety by controlling other things in my life. Most prominently back then, the number on the scale. And I was so good at it.
But just because you’re good at something ..read more

Happy New Year, and welcome to 2024! As we step into this new year, I find myself contemplating the power of renewing our minds.

As I write to you on this December 27th, just days away from the New Year, I find myself in a contemplative mood. I was telling Marco, my husband, “New Year’s is my favorite holiday.” You might find it a bit unconventional, but my ideal NYE doesn’t involve a party. Does that sound boring? I do love being around people, but for me, the perfect New Year’s Eve is a cozy day spent in reflection.
It’s a time to ponder the highs and the challenges of the past year, and to look forward with hope to another blessed year. What I’m most excited about. How I plan to approach things differently. Gone are ..read more

Is cultivating a peaceful life something you’d like to do now and into the new year?
Part of peace is learning there is a difference between having an emotion and struggling with an emotion.
This idea quite literally has the ability to change ones life…
As we individually work toward cultivating more peace within the Live Brightly community, this is the #1 lesson I’ll unpack with you.
Not just that, but we’ll also discuss how to:
Accept the things that are outside of our control and commit to action that improves our lives.

Psalms 17:15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness. ONLY God can truly satisfy our souls. We may find temporary satisfaction in the things of this world, but they do not last.
This week on the podcast we’re reflecting on this truth: ONLY God can truly satisfy. If this is true, we’re asking “What, then, does that mean for how we are free to live?” Knowing that things of this world only temporarily satisfy, how are we to choose?
Here are a few ideas and inspirations from this weeks episode:
God alone satisfies. He is wher ..read more

This week on the podcast we’re talking about allowing God to shape your life, for His good purposes. As we walked through this conversation, I literally pictured (God made me a visual woman) handing God, the Master Artist, the paintbrush of my life and saying “here you go, not my will but YOURS”. Giving Him control, and watching as His creation unfolds.
Allowing God to Shape Your Life
Being in His will is the best place we can be. Lately, there have been a few prayers bringing me comfort as I seek to know Him more:
God, please help me live each day more and more in alignment with you and you ..read more

This post is all about our move from the beautiful coast of San Luis Obispo, California to the wonderful oak-hickory forest of Northwest Arkansas. In it, I’ll share a few reasons we decided to move, what our experience has been like so far, and I’ll answer any questions you have (feel free to ask in the comments, and I’ll add to the post over time).
Before we get started, please know this isn’t a post harping on California. I was born and raised in California, I have friends and family there, and there are many things I love about the state, including many of the: people, beach, beauty, and we ..read more
