In this months resource roundup there are some new 3D software developments, interesting addons for Blender and some random art related things I have found around the internet. Relief Maker is a new software for making manufacturing-Ready 3D reliefs using 3D models by Alibre, LLC. I wrote about the program in a recent article. They also have a handy free resource of free public…

This article accompanies two videos I’ve made which may be useful if you are interested in making Bas relief images using 3D models. In the two videos I discuss three methods of making alpha images using 3D models and compare the results at the end. It may be helpful to watch the videos before reading this article but I’ve tried to include some useful information here as well.

It has taken me several weeks to complete but I have finished editing all of the articles, reorganised into more appropriate sections and fixed or removed broken links. I want to make it easier for people to find related content around the blog next with some suggested reading flows. It has been time consuming doing this but I hope to improve the website going forward and it has given me…

I’ve been trying to collate resources for another resource roundup for some time now whilst working on my art projects. Unless I am looking for something I might use myself now or in the future, I don’t always write these type of posts which is why they tend to be sporadic. At present I’m working on and off on another 3D model, this time I thought I would have a go at doing a dragon.

This will be the last in a three part article on what I did during a short break to the Countryside of France. In my last article I wrote about some base meshes for various fairys. In the final week of my break I made some base meshes for animals including a horse skeleton; a camel; a giraffe; an Asian and African Elephant; a Rhino; a Polar Bear; a Tiger and a Gorilla. I made all of the base…

PD Howler 2024 build 80 has added several improvements and new features to the 3D Render Geometry filter and introduces a new feature to the painting brushes which lets you pick up samples from the canvas and use them in brush strokes. I have made a video looking at these new features which you can watch above. The Double Load brushstrokes feature reminds me a little bit of the mixer…

Continuing from my last article I will write about what else I did on my break. I was using Curvy 3D and Blender with a mouse because I didn’t have access to my normal computer and tablet at home. I made some rough 3D fairy models and posed them with Mixamo. I rendered them out using Eevee because Cycles was slow on the laptop (needs a graphics card). Mixamo is fun for seeing…

Recently I went to the French countryside with my parents. I helped my dad with a few things but it was peaceful aside from the cockerel crowing all night and a cat giving birth to kittens one night above my bedroom. I got ill with a flu or something in the last week which was a bit annoying but I’m over it now and it gave me an excuse to watch the special features of the Matrix. I set up an…

Just a few things I noticed this month. These are probably not very recent though, I’ve been out of the loop since leaving social media and I’m not really in a position to keep doing research for the blog at the moment. Meshrender is a 3D rendering software by the same developer that makes sculpting software Meshmolder. It came out earlier this year but I missed it. There is a new…

I did a little painting study of a squirrel for this article. I wanted to test how bristle brushes and impasto brushes compared and worked together (if at all) in Krita, Corel Painter (version 2021) and Rebelle (version 6). I decided to use those software because they all have brush engines that help create handpainted oil bristle painterly type images and impasto paint effects.
