Moric - Lutzmannsburg Ried Kirchberg 2019

This bottle of wine was somehow inevitable. And it was associated with a lot of anticipation. Those who have visited here before know that I and Lemberger are great friends. While Lemberger from Württemberg had its reputation being pulled down by Trollinger and especially Trollinger with Lemberger, and is now slowly fighting its way back up, Blaufränkisch from Burgenland sounds like salvation to many wine drinkers. It is indeed the case that local winemakers prefer to print Blaufränkisch on the label rather than Lemberger for the sake of sales. [Continue reading ..read more

Two Bottles Bastian Beny

The bottles from Bastian Beny are the kind of wine that I come across somewhere on social media, think to myself that they look really chic, then see them again somewhere else, and then the bottles just have to be on the table. And there they are now. Bastian originally worked as a chef before joining the family winery in 2017. At that time, the focus was still on conventionally produced bulk wine and part-time work. Keltis - Sivi Pinot 2020

Keep your eyes peeled when choosing wine. Somehow, my subconscious thought that this wine had to be red. Obviously, that’s not the case, and by now, I also know that ‘Sivi Pinot’ simply translates to Pinot Gris. At least, I unintentionally hit the mark in terms of winemaking style, as this Pinot Gris spends six days on the skins, making it closer to red wine than white. And since Pinot Gris naturally has relatively dark skins, ‘orange’ here describes not only the wine style but is also a wonderfully fitting color description for what you pour into your glass. While silence may be golden, when it comes to these two bottles from Schweigen, which not only bears the name of a village but also means silence, remaining silent isn’t an option that makes too much sense when writing a blog. And after last week’s anniversary, it’s also a good opportunity to calibrate one’s own sense of time a bit. With wineries whose wine, or in this case sparkling wine, I’ve tasted here before, I always wonder if it’s too early to put their wine back on the table. [Continue reading ..read more

Two Bottles Domaine Du Bel Air

Normally, one would probably toast to an anniversary with sparkling wine. But despite my love for all kinds of bubbly, the opportunity to celebrate five years of Saufwein with a wine named “Jour de Soif” (very close to Saufwein) was far too tempting. So, we did reach five years of Saufwein. I briefly considered compiling statistics on how much white wine versus red wine, which regions, and how many times bubbles have danced in our glasses. Two Bottles Vagabund

We all know why I bought these two bottles. I mean, there’s a guy riding a rooster on the label. With a hat. How could you not buy that? At the same time, the combination of Riesling from Zeltinger Himmelreich in the Mosel region and Grüner Veltliner from the Wachau in Austria, both from the same producer, is quite intriguing. Since 2019, Jochen Fleischmann has been making wine under the name Vagabund from various corners of Europe. [Continue reading ..read more

Two Bottles Xose Lois Sebio

The project of immediately emptying boxes instead of putting them away continues unabated. These two bottles are also a discovery from Perspektive Wein. Interestingly, I had never heard of Xose Lois Sebio before, and it was pure chance that he had set up his wines at the stand almost directly next to Can Descregut. Can Descregut wouldn’t have been familiar to me either, but as luck would have it, these exact wines were discussed a few days earlier on the WRINT Flaschen podcast. [Continue reading ..read more

Since it was so delightful last week, we’re simply staying in the Loire region. Conveniently, the trade show haul is still around. What are a few months as a cardboard box in the hallway anyway? Exactly. And drinking bottles straight from the box elicits roughly the same feeling of happiness as putting on clothes straight from the laundry rack. That feeling of saving yourself some work you didn’t really want to do anyway is just fantastic. [Continue reading ..read more

Les Errances - Quand Fond La Neige 2021

Where does the white go when the snow melts? Or rather “Quand fond la neige, où va le blanc” as the wine is fully called. The question is attributed to Shakespeare, but one cannot be entirely certain. And frankly, I find it too philosophical for today or any other day of the week. Both where the white disappears to and who supposedly asked that. Back in school, due to lack of motivation, summaries from somewhere on the internet had to suffice regularly. Goisot - Gondonne 2019

Actually, this was supposed to be a two-bottle post, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. However, the first truly porous cork of my wine-drinking career quickly put a damper on that plan. Eventually, though, it had to happen that we would encounter such a terrible cork. After all, over the past few years, more than just one or two bottles of wine have been delivered to our doorstep by the mail carrier. And the piece of tree bark in the red wine was truly the worst piece of tree bark so far. [Continue reading ..read more
