As a teacher and poet, I wanted to write something to help children explore the power of synonyms in a fun and engaging way.
You could get your class of children to become chefs and write their own Giggle Cafe Menu. After that, the possibilities are endless...
The Anger Cafe Menu
The Happy Cafe Menu
The Sad Cafe Menu
The Smelly Cafe Menu
The Disgusting Cafe Menu
The Slimy Cafe Menu etc etc etc
Let me know in the comments box if your fun favourite is missing from the laugh synonym menu.

I'm very excited to announce my new picture book is out later this year! It's already been fully illustrated by the brilliant Chris White who also illustrated my debut children's picture book, Halloween Date From Hell. You'll get an essence of what visual joy awaits you inside the book from the promo image below.
The Klangaroo will be published by HB Publishing House who have been so hands-on during the whole process. They publish children's picture books and adult fiction too. Check them out!

Why change, when everything you have is all you need?
A New Year's Resolution Poem #BeMoreYou
Be More You (New Year’s Resolution)
This New Year
choose honesty
choose to love
who you can be
Don’t believe
you’re not all that
just because
your abs aren’t flat
This New Year
see what you’ve got
Build on that
Not what you’re not
Don’t believe
you’re wrong or strange
or to fit
you have to change
This New Year
Chin up, chest out
Recapture
what you’re all about
Don’t believe
that you have failed
just because
some ships have sailed
If last year
was quite a quest

For a few children, school is home and home is school. This poem for kids about going back to school explores those two contrasting realities.

Going Back
I’ve got my pencil
I’ve got my pen I’m back at school
I’m me again
I draw new pictures
I write new words
I’m back at school
I’m seen, I’m heard
I’ve got no pencil
I’ve got no pen
I’m back at home
I’m scared again
I draw no pictures
I write no words
I’m back at home
Unseen, unheard

Alliteration is a fun and easy way to get kids into writing poetry. How many animals can you get your class of children to alliterate? Get them to imagine and list all the creatures they wouldn't want crawling around their clothes.
Can they add a twist at the end, where something that seems horrible turns into a positive ... an alliteration poem for kids, written by kids?
Sounds super!

So here we go again, #TheFullStopDay is upon us. I thought I'd post a video of me reading my Year 6, primary school leavers poem, dedicated to all of those children preparing to leave the wonder years of primary school, ready for the next chapter of their lives.
That last day of primary school is an unforgettable day, where eight heady, steady, informative and inspirational years culminate in six final, fateful memory-drenched hours.
Good luck you all!
Enjoy your life, work hard and chase your dreams until you catch them!

I've always loved sweets (or candy). I'm 52 years old and I still cant pass a Pick and Mix station without wanting to fill a bag with a hundred sweets that will cost me a week's pay
This poem was very tough to research! Poor me, I had to buy every bag of #Haribo in the supermarket, sort every shape and then tongue-taste every type and texture. It's hard work writing poems
This poem about sweets and candy is for all of you Haribo obsessives out there!
Love,
