Baglietto’s commitment to increasingly sustainable and green yachting is making headway with the Italian yacht builder actively engaged in pursuing and driving the energy transition in this sector. It was in this spirit that the La Spezia-based shipyard partnered with two leading players, Siemens Energy and CGT, to develop a new interposed hybrid propulsion system soon to be installed on Baglietto's hybrid yachts. The innovative interposed powertrain represents a step forward in the shipyard's research into new environmentally friendly technologies. After being recently successfully bench-test ..read more

PERSHING GTX80 (1:03) Pershing has launched the first hull of its new GTX80 series. Time was, wags tossed around the line, “If you want an eco-friendly yacht, buy a sailboat.” The thing is, most of the big ones have diesel engines and generators, and they use many of the same construction materials as motoryachts. They’re markedly eco-unfriendly when they’re coming and going from port, when the wind dies or if the crew is feeling lazy. But the world is changing. In recent years, the words “sustainable” and “sustainability” have shouldered their way into nearly every corner of our culture, including the world of yachts. It’s powering a wave across the yachting spectrum and app ..read more

The distinction between owners and crew is as stark as night and day. One lives the dream, the other facilitates it. When tech entrepreneur Aaron Fidler bought his 136-foot (41.4-meter) Palmer Johnson AK Royalty in 2022, he bridged the gap, going from chief engineer to superyacht owner in 15 years. 136-foot Palmer Johnson AK Royalty, a  Courtesy of AK Royalty “I had quick career progression as crew and traveled the world,” Fidler says, his mirrored sunglasses glinting under the Dubai sun. “But I soon realized I didn’t want to be scrubbing decks on somebody else’s boat. I wanted my ow ..read more

Virtuosity means great skill or talent in an artistic pursuit. It’s an entirely appropriate name for the second hull in Sanlorenzo’s 185-foot 57Steel series. The yacht is a virtuoso performance by the Italian builder in collaboration with Zuccon International Project for the clean-cut exterior styling, and with Piero Lissoni for the crisply contemporary interior design. A bar at the entrance to the main salon makes use of the space between the engine room ventilation shafts. “During the design process, I always try to find a key word to explain the meaning of the process, and in the case of th ..read more

A yacht’s blend of spaces is always crucial to onboard comfort, particularly the way indoor and outdoor spaces interact. In the Infynito 90, Ferretti Yachts incorporates bluff-bow styling in a way that creates an interesting interpretation of the mix. The Infynito’s profile follows the latest Euro fashions, but there’s something new going on up at the bow. With the fashionable profile, the beam can be carried well forward, allowing space in the hull for a much longer lower deck. The design allows for layout options on all three levels. As an example, the standard accommodations plan includes a ..read more

In medieval times, alchemy referred to the transformation of one matter to another, such as converting base metal to gold. Today, alchemy describes the transformation of the ordinary into the extraordinary. With Rossinavi’s 216-foot (66-meter) Alchemy, the evolution from idea to reality was a blend of art, science and magic. Alchemy’s owner was the key decision-maker from inception to completion. While many individuals building a custom superyacht are involved to some degree, most defer to trusted representatives about the complexities. Not so with Alchemy’s owner. The open salon, with extra-l ..read more

Crew members of the Dutch pilot steamer Coertzen approached the object that had caught their attention. There, near the mouth of the Scheldt River along the eastern edge of the English Channel, in the rippling black, the men on the small vessel realized what they’d seen. It was a body. Though the decomposition was ghastly, the sailors noticed the fine quality of the clothing that still wrapped the body. Pulling the remains alongside the boat, they plucked four items from the pockets of the deceased before releasing the rotting corpse back into the waves: a coin purse, a penknife, an eyeglass c ..read more

Aptly nicknamed “the red bullet” thanks to a striking red and white exterior and a sharp, steeply raked bow, Leona, the second hull in Bilgin’s 263-foot (80-meter) series, is the largest private yacht to come out of Turkey yet. Just as eye-catching is the highly bespoke interior that showcases the shipyard’s craftsmanship. The main deck aft, with a backlit cocktail bar Courtesy of Bilgin Yachts Antalya-based Unique Yacht Design handled the naval architecture and exterior design, while British studio H2 Yacht Design penned the interior. As with Leona’s five-deck sistership, Tatiana, the beach c ..read more

Some people manage their affairs by gut and instinct. Others rely on hard data to inform their decisions. Rich Kracum falls very much into the latter camp. The spreadsheet is his friend. It’s a tool that undoubtedly served him well in his years in the private equity business. But Kracum’s life is not all about business these days. He retired some years back from the firm he co-founded, Wind Point Partners, although he still maintains some connections to the private equity world. These days, he’s extremely busy indulging his recreational passions, among them: hunting, golf, skiing and particula ..read more
