In short “we’re getting there!”. I’m sure you’re like me and CANNOT WAIT to hit a small black ball in one of those glamorous white courts – oh wait – or would you rather hit a white ball on and even more glamorous glass court! Whatever your desire – check out this video tour of the space. As always, don’t boast, just keep it deep. – James The post FiDi is getting there! appeared first on Open Squash ..read more

The Courts Have Arrived!
Manhattan Community Squash Center
by James Green

I’m excited! While I admit it doesn’t take much to get me excited about squash, this time I have good reason: our squash courts have arrived and are safely located at 100 Pearl Street – our newest FiDi location that is scheduled to open in September 2023. We’re not *quite* ready to put them up yet, but we’re nearly there. One of the most time consuming and difficult things to build when putting a squash center on the 14th floor of a building in Manhattan (or the 5th floor for that matter) are the Jack Slabs – concrete isolation slabs that we put below the courts to ensure that no matter how ..read more

Introducing: Peter Creed!
Manhattan Community Squash Center
by Open Squash
1y ago
Hiring squash pros can be tough. The skills and attributes that lead to competitive success on the PSA tour are very different from those that lead to success as a squash teacher. The holy grail is to find someone who combines world-class squash ability with the passion and patience for teaching, communicating, developing and encouraging that ability in others. This combination isn’t common and…well, you can probably see where this post is going! So, it’s with great pleasure that we can announce that Peter Creed is joining Open Squash this fall at our Bryant Park location, where he will be ..read more

Manhattan Community Squash Center
by Open Squash

Just out this weekend – an amazing video documentary on a simply incredible player. Harvard grad, Gina Kennedy has had the fastest rise up the pro ranks in the history of the PSA. We’re so proud to have Gina on the Open Squash team. She’s an inspiration to everyone and an incredible asset to the sport. And if that’s not enough good news: Gina will be at Open Squash August 15th-19th for a special all-girls squash camp, and we have three spots open. This camp is specifically all-female and focused on the technical, physical and mental attributes that are essential for young women and girls ..read more

As you all know, the Open Squash community is starting an exciting growth stage, with our Pearl Street community center coming online in about a year, and our Brooklyn center a year after that. That’s going from five courts to 23, and from 500 members to over 2000. Growing the sport (and making it affordable to all) is our mission, so it’s rewarding to see this progress. All credit to our amazing community – our Bryant Park players, team, volunteers, collaborators, partners, donors, and fellow squash lovers. If Open Squash is a bandwagon, then you are the band!  Now we’d like to ask your ..read more

Brooklyn in the house!
Manhattan Community Squash Center

Brooklyn is special (if you don’t believe me, ask anyone who lives there). And in our case it’s extra-special because early next year we will be assuming the lease of a space that currently offers squash: 43 Clark Street (AKA EAC). This is a big deal, because the lease is up soon, and if we hadn’ secured the lease, those courts would very likely have gone the way of 86th street, Lincoln Center, and The Printing House, and if you don’t know what I’m talking about that’s because there are no squash courts in any of those locations anymore! But I’m jumping to the end. Let’s start at the beginnin ..read more

Big news: we’re expanding…and then expanding again!
Manhattan Community Squash Center

It’s no secret that we’ve been working hard to get ready for construction of a new 8-court facility downtown on Pearl Street. Last Wednesday we finally signed the lease, and it’s official. So: yay! Then on Thursday we got more great news, about something that we had expected to be months away – we signed another lease, for a 10-court facility in Brooklyn. So, yeah, we’re going from 5 courts to 23 courts over the next two years or so. Our team is mostly over our surprise at this point, and we’re rolling up our sleeves getting ready to put the work in. I’ll get to the details, but first the cont ..read more
