  Morote Seoinage is our technique of the fortnight! We have a very structured curriculum here at 510 Judo, everything is planned out for the year and we focus on each technique for two weeks at a time. At the end of every quarter we spend a week reviewing the techniques of the past three months to reinforce the learning process. After review week, we have belt tests for eligible kids in the Youth program, an advanced brown and black belt workout for adults, and an in house tournament! Kata Guruma – Fireman’s Carry for Judo

  Kata Guruma translates literally as “shoulder wheel” and is also known as fireman’s carry. It is used in many forms of grappling, and one story says that Jigoro Kano, the founder of judo, learned this throw from an exponent of American wrestling and incorporated it into judo. Randori is a Japanese term used in judo meaning sparring or free play. The literal translation is “to pick from chaos” (ran = chaos, dori = to choose or pick something). There are many different types of randori, and to develop your judo, you should regularly try all of them, rather than get stuck on one. The basic differences have to do with intensity level and rules.   This week and the next we’ll be going over osaekomi escapes (osaekomi waza = pinning techniques). This is a basic but very important part of judo.
