In this final installment of the 4 Agreements Applied to Dentistry, we’ll learn about doing our best, being our best, and why it’s essential to our work life and dental teams.
Always Do Your Best
Your best will change from moment to moment and day by day. Your best will be different when you’re healthy and happy to work with your team, with a zest for your ability to lead an incredible group of people instead of being sick or in a bad mood. Under any circumstance, always give your best efforts to be the best version of yourself; your team and patients require it.

One of the most rewarding and simple motivational things I have implemented was a team bulletin board and information center. Overall, the employee bulletin board is a powerful tool for strengthening workplace bonds by facilitating communication, encouraging recognition, promoting collaboration, and facilitating social interaction.
On a blank wall in our employee kitchen, I mounted an inexpensive magnetic chalkboard and some 4×8 open-top containers. Add a few chalk pens and magnets, plus some creativity, and you will have the beginnings of a fun way to communicate with and draw your team to ..read more

As a consultant, I was privileged to observe different dental practices and their collection systems. I was always amazed at the office’s accounts receivables; some are great, and others make me wonder how the doctor stays in business. I watched a financial coordinator set up a payment plan for 48 months with no finance charges and no signed agreement. The patient was going to pay $25 a month! Another time, I helped an office run 500 statements for a one-doctor practice with over $700,000 owed to the doctor. In this economy, a practice cannot survive doing business like this. The following ..read more

In this world of ever-changing dental insurance, I would like to talk about one insurance that I feel offices should pay closer attention to.
Medicare Advantage Plans have become very robust in the last four years and will continue to expand and compete to offer better coverage. This is good news for both dental offices and our senior patients.
What is a Medicare Advantage Plan?
Medicare Advantage is a type of Medicare health plan offered by private companies that are Medicare-approved. They are considered an alternative to Original Medicare and cover all the expenses incurred under Medicar ..read more

We’ve reviewed why it’s important to be impeccable with our word and not to take anything personally. In the third part of this series, we’ll review why it’s essential not to make assumptions in our dental offices.
Don’t Make Assumptions
Assumption is a noun defined as a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen without proof. Assumptions set us up for disappointment, mainly because these assumptions we tell ourselves and then believe are untruths.
How this principle applies to our teams
In the dental office, a common assumption is that our team has specific skills needed ..read more

Sometimes, OSHA Compliance can sound intimidating. OSHA compliance is a vital aspect of your job, but this just doesn’t come from one person; this is a team effort every day in the office. You should have a designated team member as your OSHA Compliance Officer. Still, depending on your office, you may have a lead assistant or a clinical coordinator with whom you will work closely to adhere to the OSHA Compliance Standard. This article is an OSHA Compliance checklist for dental offices to read through annually, along with general guidelines, to ensure you avoid violations. So, let’s take a ..read more

Today, it seems more than ever that there is a push for dental offices, previously tied to PPO insurance contracts, to move in a different direction.
This can be for a variety of reasons.
Maybe your provider is tired of working for half your fee, tired of the downgrades, or maybe your team is tired of calling insurance companies for hours every day.
Maybe your office is working on dropping several networks.
Or maybe, like us, you’re stuck somewhere in between all of the above.
Would you and your team like to free up several hours a day and stop getting worked over by “complementary benefit ..read more
