It took me almost 20 years and 12 houses before I believed in the power of a large rug. Before that I thought rugs were just decor or just something soft. Our bedroom hasn’t felt right since we moved in. Because I needed to photograph it for the book I got it in good enough shape, but it didn’t feel like me and I was too busy to take the time to figure out why.  I liked each individual piece, what was the problem? I’ve been thinking back through the 15 homes we’ve lived in and this is only the third time we’ve had a dedicated laundry room. Not only that, this room is upstairs, it’s not also a landing place for the backdoor. It was the best laundry room we’ve ever had right from the start.
